The orphans visited the new baobab tree water hole and drank from the newly constructed water trough but did not enter the mudbath as it was a cold day. In the afternoon, while the stockade dependant orphan elephants were busy browsing on the northern foot of Msinga hill, Lempaute, Dabassa and Kivuko joined them for a spell. (read more...)

Voi Unit  April  2016  We are so happy to see that Lesanju’s herd comprised of Lempaute, Sinya, Wasessa, Rombo, Taveta, Layoni, Dabassa and Mzima are very much now independent of the stockade and their keepers for more than two weeks now; they have not been visiting the stockade very frequently and this is another huge success story for all within that small herd, well on their way to becoming wild. (read more...) view

Lesanju’s herd of much older orphans, becoming semi-independent now comprised of Wasessa, Rombo, Taveta, Mzima, Sinya, Lempaute, Layoni and Dabassa and these more independent girls explored further onto the northern side of the park browsing without being followed by the keepers, arriving at the big water hole at 2pm, for a bath. (read more...)

Kivuko became jealous of all the attention he was getting and interrupted his game by sitting on his head impairing his ability to continue what he was doing after which Layoni, Panda, Dabassa, Mzima and Lesanju all joined in to challenge Rombo in bathing games. (read more...)

Voi Unit  April  2015  They arrived at the middle water pool half an hour later than their normal 11am time for milk and quenched their thirst at the water trough before making the difficult decision as to whether or not to have a mudbath as the water was rather cold. 
Bada decided to forgo the mudbath and instead enjoyed scratching his buttocks on the edge of the mudbath while being watched by Dabassa who stood next to him as if on guard duty. (read more...)

When the Keepers signaled that it was time to move on, the orphans ran to the hill, trumpeting. At the mudbath Kivuko sat down, rubbing her bottom along the bottom and then attempted a handstand putting her head down and trying to stand on her front legs! Nursery Unit  September  2011  At first he had eyes only for anything white, hoping it might be more milk, but later settled down in amongst the group, approached initially by Ishanga, who always takes a special interest in newcomers. However, Kasigau head butted her away, and after that she left him alone!
