Nursery Unit  May  2017  They used to be led by Kelelari but now in the morning, as they begin to walk off deeper into the wood, they soon realize they are the only three and quickly return to where the rest of the herd are browsing. It is at times like this that they show how much they are missing the older members of their herd like Kelelari, but they will grow accustomed to the change!  
 
Meanwhile, Pare and Galla have been staging some long and challenging pushing games as if trying to figure out who is the more dominant bull since Kelelari left. (read more...)

Nursery Unit  May  2017  Having not shown any sadness or upset yesterday, today their mood was very different. Apart from Mundusi and Ndiwa who stay apart from the group most of the time, the entire herd was crowded together. Ndotto was leading the group that browses a bit further ahead during the day which was normally led by Dupotto and Kelelari, including Ukame, Maramoja, Galla, Wanjala and Rapa. (read more...) view

Nursery Unit  September  2016  The funny squeaking noise the piglets made Maxwell want to run around after them, though they were wise enough to all run in different directions and gather with their mother, leaving Maxwell always wondering which direction they had run in! As all this was going on, Dupotto, Naseku, Galla, Maramoja and Sana Sana had all gathered alongside Maxwell’s gate and were watching as Maxwell chased the mother and baby warthogs around his stockade. (read more...) view

Nursery Unit  August  2016  It is funny to see how much of the orphans hate the oil whilst others love it. As soon as the keepers finished bathing them, all the elephants relaxed and then enjoyed rolling on the ground in the dust.  
 
Out at during public viewing, Rapa and Lasayen were out and about showing off their naughty characters as both were bullying poor Galla; head butting him and not letting him join them. (read more...)

Nursery Unit  June  2016  Soon after the first group of orphans settled back into the forest after the public visiting time, a drama unfolded when a lioness was witnessed trying to ambush a warthog who was near the orphans! It was a scary moment when we realised the lion as about to ambush the warthog right next to Galla who was busy browsing and completely unaware of the lioness! (read more...) view
Nursery Unit  June  2016  Balguda enjoyed the company of Mbegu, Kauro and Murit this morning. As most of the other orphans kept pushing on deep into the wet bushes, these three decided to stay behind and keep Balguda company, and also have a bit of fun with him too!  
 
Being a Friday, after the 9am milk feed it was time to apply coconut oil to all the orphans – and not everybody likes it! Naseku, Galla and Sana Sana kept their keepers on their toes by running around in every direction before they could put the oil on. (read more...)

Nursery Unit  June  2016  All the other babies were scattered – some came to assist Kauro, others ran to look for the baby group. Murit and Galla got confused and slightly lost in the thick bushes and it took a few minutes for the keepers to find them. (read more...) view
