Nursery Unit  September  2017  When the other orphans came out of their pens, it was funny to watch Kuishi, Malkia, Maramoja and Mbegu all milling around the new babies stable; Kuishi and Malkia kept yelling out as they wanted to meet the new little one; but she is not yet strong enough and the keepers began to walk out to the forest so they had to follow. (read more...) view
Nursery Unit  August  2017  Little Musiara, Sattao and Maktao were chasing after the warthogs babies that had accompanied their mothers to eat lucerne pellets. These three little boys kept themselves busy chasing the young warthogs around the mud wallow and taking sharp turns, but at one point Musiara miscalculated his turn and fell over! He fell over and yelled which brought Godoma, Kuishi, Tamiyoi and Malima running over kicking up a cloud of dust as they found the warthogs close to where Musiara had just fallen over. (read more...) view
Nursery Unit  August  2017  During the public visit today after the first group of orphans had finished their milk bottles it was quite funny watching Kuishi who was in a very playful mood and was down on her knees pushing the plastic water trough with her head and trying to spill all the water out. (read more...) view
Nursery Unit  August  2017  This earned the interest of Mteto and Kuishi who joined him in trumpeting and stamping around in the bushes, which meant the moth flew up into a tree for refuge to get away from the feisty elephant babies. (read more...) view
Nursery Unit  August  2017  Eventually the buffalos got bored of their charging and moved away into the forest. Once all the orphans settled down Kuishi, Ngilai, Tagwa, Malkia and Mteto proceeded to join the little ones. (read more...) view
Nursery Unit  August  2017  Kuishi became jealous of Tamiyoi and Jotto who had started playing beside her and she decided to separate the two by pushing them apart, but Mbegu came over and hugged them and pushed Kuishi away from the herd. (read more...) view

Nursery Unit  August  2017  At the public visit today when their time was up and they had finished their milk, the first group was on their way back to the forest. Godoma was leading the group out and across the little bridge where the water runs down the rocks and the others were following in line, all except Kuishi and Esampu who were being very playful and shoved the smaller babies to the side to get to the front. (read more...) view
Nursery Unit  July  2017  When the orphans came out of their night stockades, some of them like Murit, Tamiyoi, Mteto, Lasayen and Mbegu were seen walking amongst the rooms looking for extra lucerne pellets, whilst others like Ndotto, Kauro, Pare and Rapa were greeting each other with pushing games and Esampu, Tagwa, Malkia and Kuishi were welcoming the three little boys – Musiara, Sattao and Maktao. (read more...) view

Nursery Unit  June  2017  Kuishi drew everyone’s attention however when she went to lie down on top of the soil heap with her front legs forward and her hind legs spread out behind, and there she napped for almost half of the visiting time in her own unique style. (read more...) view

Nursery Unit  June  2017  Ngilai always plays with the same strength and vigor with everyone he plays with regardless of their age or size! Murit and Ngilai gave up their game briefly when all herd were on the move to a different part of the forest, but later Murit came across Ngilai playing with Kuishi and he approached to try and interrupt their game. (read more...) view

Nursery Unit  June  2017  They all browsed close to their keepers and none wanted to walk off very far from the group, as they used to do in the company of the older orphans.  
 
During the public visit today, soon after the first group had settled down after their milk bottle, some settled to soil dust and roll around on the dusty ground whilst Esampu and Kuishi were busy chasing after a football. (read more...)

Nursery Unit  May  2017  No matter the mood or the situation they will always try and change the mood of the herd to a happy one. Nursery Unit  February  2017  It was very hot today which meant the first group of orphans downed their milk bottles quickly and ran into the mud pool to enjoy a mud bath. Luggard, Malima, Esampu and Godoma who love mud bathing were the first ones to get in and roll around. Malima and Esampu spun around in the mud as they playfully splashed mud against each other, a game which attracted Sana Sana, Kuishi and Ngilai as well. (read more...) view

Nursery Unit  February  2017  Sometimes he is not very nice towards Ukame, despite the fact she is older and bigger than him. She is new though and it has taken her awhile to settle in, which elephants like Lasayen can take advantage of. At 3pm when the elephants were going down to the mud bath area in small groups for their milk bottles, Ukame was in a group of Lasayen, Kuishi, Pare and Ngilai. (read more...) view
Nursery Unit  February  2017  such a shy girl within the family, to such an extent that sometimes she is bullied by some of the smaller ones like Malima! Kuishi has also taken advantage of her shyness and bullied her today as well. (read more...) view
Nursery Unit  February  2017  After the public visit today we had a fresh pile of red soil delivered to the mud bathing area. When the babies arrived there for their 3pm milk feed none of them were left out of the fun fresh soil creates! All of the 25 orphans started rolling around in the soil and then went into the mud bath, even those that don’t really like mud bathing of late like Ukame, Kuishi and Ndotto too. (read more...) view

Nursery Unit  December  2016  Karisa is a lovely gentle boy who loves his human family, despite what humans did to his mother, and he really loves his milk bottle feeds!  
 
During public visiting this morning the first group were having their milk bottles and it was quite interesting to see tiny Tamiyoi bullying little Malima and Kuishi who were trying to approach the keeper bottle feeding Tamiyoi. (read more...)
