Nursery Unit  May  2017  These two boys approached them but when Kauro raised his trunk up in the air Lasayen ran off yelling at the sight of his big tusks! This left Pare to play with Galla and Kauro but the game did not last long as Kauro started to try and climb on the other two and they are no match for him! 
 
Again it was too cold to mud bath at the public visit today however Murit kept busy with a chasing game against Esampu and Mteto. (read more...)

Nursery Unit  May  2017  This morning as soon as they came out of their pens and met in the forest, they began a fierce pushing game in which neither was surrendering to the other! Nursery Unit  January  2017  When Luggard, Malima, Tamiyoi, Ambo and Jotto arrived at the mud bath area, it was all they could do to finish their milk as fast as possible before going to suck up mud and spray it behind their ears to cool down. Luggard especially, who loves his mud baths, happily wallowed in the thick mud accompanied by Tamiyoi, Malima and Jotto, though their happy games took a turn when Esampu, Murit, Godoma and Ngilai arrived at the mud bath too. (read more...) view

Nursery Unit  July  2016  Godoma had been watching all of this and she is another one that likes the attention from the keepers. She must have been jealous of Jotto because when she saw Mbegu walking away to follow Oltaiyoni she went over and pushed Jotto away from his keeper. Luckily Mbegu and Oltaiyoni did not see her do that or she would have been disciplined by them for sure! 
 
It isn’t usual to find Murit engaged in any very active games with his friends but today he had a very lengthy wrestling game with Lasayen during the 3pm milk feed. (read more...)

Nursery Unit  July  2016  Rapa and Godoma were the most affected today – Godoma when she was just taking some branches away from Murit whilst he was eating some of them, and Rapa when he accidentally stepped on Ambo whilst moving backwards. (read more...) view

Nursery Unit  June  2016  The group charged at the lion bush bashing and trumpeting loudly and managed to get it to move away. They then ran to rejoin the rest of the orphan herd but it was a while before they settled down and for about 20 minutes they continued to trumpet and charge around to make sure that the big cat would stay away and thus keep the younger orphans, Murit, Ndotto, Lasayen, Godoma, Rapa, Sana Sana, Ngilai and Mbegu safe. (read more...) view

Nursery Unit  April  2016  This did not deter the orphans from enjoying their daily activities though and all were see happy and playful as they walked out to the bush in the morning. During public visiting we had heavy downpour again and the stream on the way to the milk feeding area was full to the brim, meaning little ones like Murit, Ngilai, Godoma and Lasayen took slow deliberate steps to cross through but the older ones crossed with ease. (read more...) view
Nursery Unit  April  2016  Sometimes when the milk is not ready out in the forest, Galla walks over to the bottle feedings area and when he fails to find it ready he starts yelling loudly to draw the attention of the keepers to bring it soon – he is quite a clever boy! Nursery Unit  January  2016  Today we discovered something new about Tamiyoi and little Murit – every morning as all the other orphans were walking out of their stockades to the forest to begin their day of browsing, these two young babies are walking to a particular tree close to Maxwell’s stockade and feeding on the berries currently growing on it. (read more...) view

Nursery Unit  January  2016  This group of older orphans were happy and stamping around the bush, breaking down small bushes, which attracted the attention of the rest of the baby herd and they all charged and trumpeted together towards the forest! 
 
This happy moment came to an end however when bullies Enkikwe and Olsekki accidentally pushed little Murit who fell down and yelled, drawing the attention of Oltaiyoni who rushed over to Murit to see what was wrong. (read more...)

Nursery Unit  November  2015  Out in the field at around 10 o’clock as the orphans were busy browsing deep in the forest they were suddenly frightened by two male buffaloes that made their way running through the orphans to the browsing area; leaving the entire orphaned herd slightly shaken up with the young ones like Murit, Rapa, Godoma, Mbegu, Kamok, Roi, Ndotto and Lasayen yelling and running to their keepers. (read more...) view
