Faraja and Ngasha made sure to avoid the buffalo herd and Sonje kept a close eye on Mwashoti who was slowly limping along to ensure the he would not get a surprise at seeing the buffaloes as well as to make sure that he would get safely past them. (read more...) view

The orphans made their way to the Umani Hills in search of fresh branches and green to browse on until it was time to head towards the noon bottle feed and waterhole. The orphans were not the only ones browsing on the hills as some buffaloes were grazing around the slopes of the hill quite close to where Ziwa, Faraja and Ngasha were browsing. (read more...)

Kibwezi Forest/Umani Springs Unit  September  2017  Murera took the lead and walked the other orphans to the higher ground where everyone was searching the fresh acacia pods. 
 
At the waterhole all the orphans arrived and found some turtles floating in the water, something that apparently annoyed Ziwa and Ngasha and they kicked the water with their feet for the turtles to come out before they could start swimming in it. (read more...)

A fight between the naughty boys Faraja and Ngasha broke out when Ngasha grabbed Faraja’s tail which Faraja was not happy about and encouraged by Ziwa, he engaged Ngasha in a pushing fight to stop Ngasha from grabbing his tail and biting it. (read more...)

The keepers had to try and force him inside his pen but he refused and kept running away from the keepers to try and get back to the acacia pods! The keepers took the orphans on their last trip of the day to the wetlands where they found some wild elephants wallowing and rolling on their backs enjoying the water pool, but the keepers and the orphans had to stop and wait for the wild bulls to finish wallowing, but Ngasha and Ziwa avoided the keepers’ requests to wait and instead went towards the wild bulls where they looked very tiny, compared to their big wild bull friends. (read more...)

Jasiri and Ngasha were engaged in pushing games which became quite heated as Ngasha grabbed Jasiri’s tail which did not go down well with Jasiri who retaliated and the two came to logger heads until some buffaloes appeared unexpectedly, scaring them and forcing them to separate from one another bringing an end to their feud. (read more...) view

When the wild bull left, Quanza got a chance to sharpen her small tusks on a fallen tree to try. Kibwezi Forest/Umani Springs Unit  March  2015  Murera appeared a very happy mother this morning. She was playing on the ground and raising her neck up, facing the sky while on the ground rubbing her belly, she was stretching her veins and joints stimulating good blood flow.  
 
Sonje took away her adopted baby Zongoloni, going into the forests looking for root tubes, shrubs and tasty bits to feed on and the boys were following Ngasha who was taking them to the keepers but Faraja and Jasiri knew he was leading them to the bushes, and browse on some greens branches, later on, Ngasha looked around for good shade to take cover from the hot weather, which was necessary to help protect Faraja and Jasiri’s light skin, as these are two very special and rare albino baby elephants. (read more...)

Embu is still feeding very well and loves the milk formula however both Embu and Murit don't seem to want to socialize very much with the other elephants.
