One main goal of The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is community engagement on conservation matters. This is achieved through educating the community on the importance of environmental conservation to ensure sustainability especially to wildlife species.

In February 2018, the Community Outreach team improved the school trip program by coming up with lectures on environmental conservation, aimed at exposing theoretical knowledge on conservation before the practical knowledge in the protected areas, additionally, the team have improved the tree seedling conditions in the nursery, to ensure high production of saplings to the neighbouring schools.

The team also managed to clean the biological filter in the fish pond in order to maintain high water quality in the re-circulating system. Replacements of worn out Lucie lamps were also given to community solar groups to ensure indoor lighting instead of kerosene lamps are used which tend to be expensive and unfriendly to the environment.
