NEW - The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Wilderness Journal - 9/21/2012
Celebrated for their pioneering work reintegrating orphaned elephants and rhinos back into the wild, the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is successfully expanding its efforts into habitat preservation; protecting vast expanses of wilderness, running extensive anti-poaching and de-snaring activities, mobile-veterinary units as well as aerial surveillance patrols and community development initiatives.

World Rhino Day – 22nd September 2012
In 2011, 488 rhinos were poached in South Africa, up from 13 in 2007! Latest rhino poaching statistics indicate that 381 rhinos have been killed so far in 2012, at this rate, more than 500 rhinos will be killed this year in South Africa alone.

The death of Nyika - 9/20/2012
We awoke on the morning of 20th September, 2012 to a very unexpected tragedy, the sudden death of 10 month old “Nyika”, rescued in July from the Taita Ranch which abuts Tsavo East National Park, and which is a notorious poaching hotspot now occupied by ruthless gun-toting Somali herdsmen who not only kill the elephants, but who have also shot at the KWS Rangers that confront them, and killed at least one person.
