We like like to express our sincere thanks to p.e.p GmbH, People For People, the Public Relations and Marketing company that launched its new German office last week with an auction of photography at the Kesselhaus in Munich on Thursday 15th July 2010 (http://www.pep-munich.com/).  p.e.p wanted to create an event that celebrated and gave something back to wildlife and very kindly chose the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust to be their charity partner, raising valuable funds for our elephant orphans project and broader protection work across Kenya.

Setting up for the event

Reception  Live music throughout the evening

Rob Brandford, DSWT UK, attended the event on behalf of the Trust and was able to share his first hand experiences of our work, before introducing a 'video' message by Dr Dame Daphne Sheldrick, who was unable to attend as she was needed at the orphanage.  Sharing our passion for Africa's wildlife with guests and helping them understand what we do and why it is so important has secured new supporters for the charity and new funds for our work, all of which are much needed with more than 35 elephants currently dependent on the DSWT.

In total 20 photographs by Joachim Schmeisser were auctioned on the night, featuring a selection of images taken across Africa, showcasing the continents diverse landscapes, people and wildlife.  The auction included photographs of our orphans, including Kibo, Sabachi, Olare, Shukuru, Suguta, Kimana, Chaimu and Ndii taken earlier this year.  The images on show were simply stunning and proved understandably popular with the 200 or so people in attendance.

On a hot evening in Munich, in a venue filled with images of Africa, a live African band and a limited edition beer brewed specially for the event, named 'Tembo', it was easy for guests to believe they were in Africa and we must credit that to p.e.p and the events sponsors.  With special attention and thanks to immagis the fine art company that supported the event from day one and Joachim for his photography.

Please note that examples of Joachim's work will be included in the DSWT's upcoming 'Protector of the Giants' exhibition taking place in London's Royal Geographical Society from 6th - 10th September 2010.  More details are available at http:///www.forellies.org  It is also possible to purchase prints of Joachim's elephant photographs on the immagis website (http://www.immagis.de/), with a 10% donation to the DSWT for every image sold.
