    It has been a difficult seven weeks for one of the Ithumba Rehabilitation Stockades newest arrivals, Tano, as she has struggled to adjust to her new life in northern Tsavo East. (read more)

  1. The rescue of Lima Lima - 3/18/2013

    A female calf of about 1 year old was first seen on the l8th February 2013, thought to be an orphan of recent poaching that had taken place within Laikipia West. (read more)

  1. CITES and its failure to take action - 3/18/2013

    Last week the 16th Conference of the Parties to CITES came to an end and the question on everyones lips is; what measures did they take to protect elephants? At the beginning of the conference, the idealists among us may have looked for an extension to the existing ban on ivory and beyond that a total ban on all ivory sales. (read more)

  1. The Deadly Spread of Acokanthera Poison by Felix Micheni - 3/12/2013

    A report was received last month by the Mara Mobile Veterinary Unit from the management of Naboisho Conservancy, which borders the world famous Masai Mara National Reserve of a young bull elephant seen limping slightly on the front left leg. (read more)

  1. THREE ARROWS FOR HIS IVORY; MSHALE WON'T GIVE UP AND NEITHER WILL WE - 3/8/2013

    In July 2012 a huge wild bull elephant aged at approximately 40 years old, now known to everyone as Mshale (the Swahili word for arrow), was treated at the Ithumba Orphans Rehabilitation facility in Northern Tsavo East National Park, having been targeted by ivory poachers. (read more)
