  1. Surviving Poisoned Arrows in Ithumba - 10/22/2012

    On the 6th October the DSWT keepers sighted a big bull, accompanied by two wild elephants at the Ithumba mudbath, who had a severe wound on his back leg as a result of being shot with a poisoned arrow. (read more)

    In the arid soils of Tsavo at the Kaluko head-quarters, the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust has grown a bountiful garden of fresh greens and seasonal vegetables. (read more)

  1. A day in the Tsavo Conservation Area - 19th October - 10/21/2012

    Deep in the field at the Kaluku headquarters a day can hold many dramatic possibilities. At first light the land comes alive and the day begins in a flurry of activity with the anti-poaching ground teams heading out on their daily patrols, coordinated over the buzzing radio from the HQ, whilst the aerial unit takes to the skies, supporting the Kenyan Wildlife Service and their security teams in protecting the greater Tsavo Conservation Area.   1. Cleaning up Tsavo East - 10/20/2012

    In 1956 after many years of construction the 210km Mzima pipeline was completed, enabling a constant supply of water to the expanding city of Mombasa on Kenya's coast. (read more)

    He seemed to be improving when we left Nairobi for Tsavo to attend the first Passing Out Parade of the Trust’s anti-poaching team from the KWS Manyani Law Enforcement College. (read more)
