  1. Rescue of Sidai - 2/2/2006

    The Ol Pejeta Conservancy, situated near the town of Nanyuki at the foothills of Mount Kenya is l00,000 acres in extent, managed now by the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. (read more)

  1. An Elephant calf is rescued from the mud and reunited with its mother and herd. - 1/28/2006

    Tsavo East Written by Joseph Sauni Head Keeper Voi Unit On the 23rd January, after a successful day in the bush with the Voi Unit orphaned elephants, we received a call from KWS late in the evening to say that there was a small calf stuck in the mud near a leak in the Mombasa water Pipeline, which had caused a black cotton bog.   1. NDOLOLO HEARTBREAK - 1/27/2006

    When he was found on the 17th October 2005, he was in a coma and as good as dead, and his elephant mother, if, indeed, the elephant with him was his mother, had given up all hope, for she was gently covering him with soft earth and leaves in an act of burial. (read more)

    Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II appointed Dr Daphne Sheldrick to Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, in the 2006 New Year’s Honours List. (read more)

  1. Rescue of Sian - 1/17/2006

    On Friday 13th January, the Amboseli Research Team became aware that “Soila”, the elephant, so named after Cynthia Moss’s Assistant, Soila, was missing from Amboseli’s famous “SA” elephant family – a unit that spends a lot of time in Tanzania, crossing over the border from Amboseli near Africa’s highest mountain, Kilimanjaro.
