16 SNARES COLLECTED

Findings

The Team started by patrolling the Trust land and its surrounding areas. We were pleased to find that we did not lift a single snare nor come across the remains of any snared animals. We then moved our patrols to the community areas and to Kilalinda where 16 snares were lifted, 3 of which targeted medium sized game. Some of the lifted snares were old, having been set several months ago.

Due to the lack of rain during the last rainy season the Mtito river has all but dried up which means that the wildlife, such as the Buffalos and Impalas, are having to cross through the Trust land in order to reach the Athi river where they are able to quench their thirst. We hope that the area will receive more rainfall with the next rains so that the Mtito river can continue to flow and the wildlife will have more than one major watersource.
