On the 24th February The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust’s Mobile Veterinary Unit while coming back from treating a young elephant calf with spear wounds in Amboseli, carried with them a one-month-old zebra foal whose mother was snatched away by lions at Amboseli Serena lodge. The hotel had kept the calf for three weeks since this incident but they did not have the right milk formula on hand nor knowledgeable personnel to take care of the it. It was weak and in poor body condition and is now currently undergoing rehabilitation in Tsavo East and being cared for at the Voi Unit by the Trust’s Keepers.

That same day one of The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust’s desnaring teams were alerted about a buffalo that had fallen down a dry well on private land. It was an incredibly difficult undertaking to remove this irate buffalo from the deep pit but before the Mobile Veterinary Unit was even able to reach the scene, our desnaring team had managed to hoist the buffalo up and to safety without sedation.
