June 2, 2015 – The Humane Society of New York announced that Dr. Dame Daphne Marjorie Sheldrick D.B.E. is a recipient of the Society’s Humane Medal in honor of her lifelong dedication to the protection of wildlife and its conservation, and in particular to The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust’s pioneering Orphan Elephant’s Project. The Humane Society of New York’s Director of Avian & Exotics Medicine and Surgery, Dr. Shachar Malka, DVM, Diplomate ABVP (Avian), was able to personally present the Humane Medal to Dame Daphne Sheldrick on behalf of the Society.  The award is not given annually and a few of the past recipients of the Humane Society of New York’s Humane Medal have been: Dian Fossey, Jane Goodall and Henry Spira.  

Dame Daphne is deeply honoured and indebted to the Humane Society for this recognition.
