    By the first week of October 2012 Amu Ranch was experiencing yet another extreme dry period. Many waterholes had dried up with only two remaining Mkumbi and Ivitho which are both frequented by Somali cattle forced south by arid conditions in their traditional grazing grounds. (read more)

    The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trusts anti-poaching teams together with the Kenya Wildlife Service are currently dealing with illegal human activity on a daily basis within the Tsavo Conservation Area. (read more)

  1. DSWT Anti-Poaching Rangers Graduate from Manyani Academy - 10/25/2012

    In the wake of the death of our ex-orphan Selengai, who became yet another innocent victim of the ivory trade, the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is implementing yet further measures to prevent any future atrocities, taking even greater action in the field against the growing threat of illegal poaching.   1. Surviving Poisoned Arrows in Ithumba - 10/22/2012

    On the 6th October the DSWT keepers sighted a big bull, accompanied by two wild elephants at the Ithumba mudbath, who had a severe wound on his back leg as a result of being shot with a poisoned arrow. (read more)

    In the arid soils of Tsavo at the Kaluko head-quarters, the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust has grown a bountiful garden of fresh greens and seasonal vegetables. (read more)
