Mount Kenya Mobile Veterinary Unit Report for July 2021

During July 2021, the SWT/KWS Mount Kenya Mobile Veterinary unit attended to many wildlife cases that required urgent veterinary intervention in the Laikipia ecosystem and Mt. Kenya region

Wildlife cases in the month included the insertion of a microchip tracker on the front horn of a adult male black rhino, superovulation and oocyte collection of a white rhino and translocation of 2 other white rhinos, as well as the collaring of one elephant. The Unit also treated 4 endangered bongos, 3 for natural causes and 1 for a snare injury. 2 endangered Grevys Zebra were attended to for natural causes and a common zebra was treated for a snare injury. A post-mortem of a male lion and a crocodile were also conducted, the crocodile was a natural death whereas the lion had been speared.
