On August 12th, World Elephant Day, we invite you to celebrate elephants with us, and help us secure their survival.
It is estimated that less than 400,000 elephants roam Africa today. Human activities – including habitat destruction, climate change, and poaching – present real and immediate threats to the future of these remaining individuals. In Kenya, we’re on call 24/7, coming to the aid of orphaned baby elephants and raising them back to a life in the wild. We fund veterinary teams to provide in-the-field treatment to injured elephants, conduct aerial patrols to protect critical habitats, deploy rangers to curb poaching, and provide access to water for elephants in the face of drought.
Wherever you are this World Elephant Day – and every day – you can help us forge a future for this iconic species, and bring hope to the countless creatures, ecosystems, and communities that rely upon elephants for their own existence. Whether in storybooks, on television, or during our travels, elephants have touched all our lives at some point. Let’s not allow them to fade into the background, but work together to safeguard their survival, so we can share them with the generations that follow us.

Meet Some of Our Orphans
For a time, more woolly mammoth than elephant, Toto has the most incredible rescue story: Testament to the intelligence of elephants, a herd of our now wild-living orphans discovered the newborn calf who was all on his own. Realising he needed help, they delivered him into the hands of our Keepers! Discover Toto's story.
Meet Olomunyak, owner of a inquisitive trunk and twinkling eyes. He's the newbie at our Nairobi Nursery, rescued after rangers found him without his herd. He's settled in well (acclimatisation comes in baby steps, rather than leaps) and has already started to form strong friendships with other members of the herd. Discover Olomunyak's story.
