The month began with a wonderful big sister, little brother reunion. Mid-morning, the orphans were joined by Kuishi, Sattao, and Larro. Esoit was very happy to see Kuishi, who he loves and looks up to. The pair browsed head-to-head, with a lot to catch up on.
Nasalot, Nusu, Noah, Nala, Naleku, Suguroi, Musiara, and a wild elephant showed up in the morning and joined the orphans in feeding on lucerne. Esoit, Kindani, and Olorien settled to scratch on nearby rocks.
After the orphans had enough lucerne, Choka led the way to the browsing field. The orphans settled to browse at Kone area. Roho, Mayan, Lodo, and Olorien visited Kone dam and had water before rejoining their colleagues in browsing. Choka teamed up with Mukutan in browsing while Weka settled to browse with Shujaa.
At around ten o'clock in the morning, the orphans were joined by Kuishi, Sattao, and Larro. Esoit was happy to reunite with his former friend Kuishi. They browsed together and had a lot to catch up on.
At eleven o'clock in the morning, Larro and Kuishi escorted the orphans to the noon bottle feeds. After the orphans had their milk, Lodo, Loldaiga, Roho, Mayan, and Vaarti jumped into the wallowing water while the rest of the team settled for a soil dusting exercise.
Shortly later, Nasalot, Nala, Noah, Nusu, Naleku, Suguroi, and Musiara passed by and left with Kuishi and Larro.
In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse at Kanziku area. Weka teamed up with Esoit while Mayan browsed with his friend Vaarti.
In the evening, the orphans settled to browse in a swampy area. Weka, Loldaiga, Mageno, and Kitich used the swampy water for cooling off by splashing it behind their ears.
At five o'clock in the evening, Shujaa led the way back to the stockade and was midway overtaken by Weka. On the way back, Jotto joined the queue and escorted the orphans back to the stockade.
Jotto joined the orphans in the morning for feeding on lucerne. Kindani, Bondeni, and Esoit settled to scratch on nearby rocks. Half an hour later, Muwingu led the way to the browsing field. Bondeni teamed up with Choka and Kitich in browsing.
Shujaa spotted two dik-diks playing ahead of him. He trumpeted and ran towards them, but they quickly fled. Shujaa reached the spot where he had seen them but found they were long gone. He searched around, kicking and knocking bushes until he tired, then resumed browsing, still alert for another chance to chase them.
The orphans browsed calmly as they slowly headed towards the mud bath. Jotto escorted them but midway turned and walked in the opposite direction.
At eleven o'clock in the morning, the orphans had their milk and then jumped into the wallowing water. In the afternoon, they settled to browse west of Ithumba Hill. Loldaiga settled with Lodo and Esoit while Roho and Mukutan shared a tree to scratch their side bellies.
In the evening, Weka led the way back to the stockade.
Sattao, Kuishi, and Larro joined the orphans in feeding on lucerne in the morning. Shujaa shared his pile of lucerne with Olorien and later the two took part in a soil dusting exercise. Muwingu scratched her itching belly on a nearby rock while Kitich held a brief meeting with Sattao.
Bondeni engaged Vaarti in a light pushing game while Kuishi and Kinyei walked down to the water trough for a drink. Shortly later, Kuishi escorted the orphans to the browsing field. Roho lagged behind with Larro and Sattao before running to catch up with the others.
Vaarti settled to browse with Bondeni while Kindani and Kinyei had a brief soil dusting exercise before resuming. Olorien browsed with Shujaa and appeared to be developing a fondness for him.
At eleven o'clock in the morning, Kindani led the way to the midday bottle feeds. After their milk, the orphans jumped into the wallowing water and then returned to the browsing field.
In the afternoon, they settled to browse at Kanziku area. Mayan browsed with Lodo while the rest scattered across the bushes enjoying the lush vegetation.
At five o'clock in the evening, Mageno led the way back to the stockade.
The orphans settled for lucerne soon after leaving the stockade. Kindani, Mageno, and Shujaa took turns scratching on a nearby rock, while Olorien and Vaarti shared another rock.
When the orphans had enough lucerne, Muwingu led the way to the browsing field. Lodo browsed with Kinyei while Bondeni engaged Loldaiga in a pushing game. Mukutan played with Mayan while Esoit played with Choka.
At eleven o'clock in the morning, Weka led the way to the mud bath. After their milk, the orphans jumped into the wallowing water. Only Vaarti declined to join and instead set about getting everyone out.
Vaarti walked into the bushes, then suddenly returned running and stood at the edge of the mud bath with his ears raised. His behaviour caused alarm, and the others began climbing out. He then ran towards the bushes trumpeting, with the rest following. After a short distance, Vaarti stopped and resumed browsing, having succeeded in bringing the group back to the field.
The afternoon was quiet as the orphans browsed calmly without any major observation. At five o'clock in the evening, Loldaiga led the way back to the stockade.
The orphans had their milk at six o'clock in the morning. The gates were opened and the orphans walked out nonchalantly and settled for lucerne. Mukutan shared his pile of lucerne with Lodo, while Kinyei and Mageno settled to scratch against the stockade compound wall.
After having enough lucerne, Muwingu led the way to the browsing field. The orphans settled to browse at Kone area. Kitich settled to browse with Mukutan while Bondeni engaged Loldaiga in a pushing game. Mageno settled to browse with Olorien, while Mayan, Roho, Kinyei, and Lodo visited the Kone dam to drink water.
Shortly later, Mayan engaged Choka in a strength testing exercise, while Vaarti, Bondeni, Kindani, Weka, and Shujaa took a break from browsing to have fun rolling on the ground.
At around ten o'clock in the morning, the orphans were joined by Kuishi, Larro, Sattao, and Musiara. The ex-orphans escorted the orphans to their noon bottle feeds and thereafter settled for wallowing. Roho engaged Sattao briefly in a strength testing exercise before joining the others in a soil dusting exercise.
It was only after the soil dusting exercise that Kuishi, Sattao, Larro, and Musiara decided to part ways with the orphans. The orphans headed north while the ex-orphans went south. The orphans then settled to browse at the upper Kalovoto seasonal river.
A male kudu emerged from the nearby bushes, and for a moment the orphans tensed before Mageno, Loldaiga, Esoit, and Choka began trumpeting in an attempt to scare it away. The kudu disappeared as suddenly as it had appeared, leaving the orphans briefly in a charging mood. Moments later, they calmed down and resumed browsing.
At five o'clock in the evening, Weka led the way back to the stockade for another night.
Esoit settled to scratch on a nearby rock close to the lucerne feeding venue immediately after leaving the stockade. Kuishi, Sattao, Larro, and Musiara arrived and joined the orphans in feeding on lucerne. As soon as Roho saw Sattao, he walked towards him, and when they met, the two boys locked trunks in a fight. Shortly later, Musiara intervened and separated them.
Once the orphans had enough lucerne, Choka led the way to the browsing field. The orphans settled to browse at Kone area. Mayan teamed up with Olorien in browsing while Kinyei took a break to play on the ground before resuming.
Esoit took a break from browsing to engage Mukutan in a pushing game, while Mageno came across a nice rock that he used to scratch his itching belly. Lodo scratched his ear against a tree as Weka settled to browse with her friend Shujaa.
At eleven o'clock in the morning, Muwingu led the way to the noon bottle feeds. Soon after the orphans had their milk, Loldaiga led the team into wallowing.
In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse at Kanziku area. The sun was hot, prompting them to take a break from browsing and rest under trees with good shade until the temperatures dropped to a favourable level.
At five o'clock in the evening, Weka led the way back to the stockade for another night.
Mulika, Mwende, Mala, Moe, Jotto, Musiara, Sattao, Kuishi, and Larro joined the orphans in the morning for feeding on lucerne. Kitich challenged Larro in a pushing game. Larro was not pleased to be challenged by a younger boy and used all her strength to try and defeat him, but Kitich held his ground. The game went on for quite some time and eventually ended in a draw.
Weka challenged Mala and went further to knock her down. Mala screamed for help, prompting Mulika and Mwende to come running to see what had happened. Sensing trouble, Weka quickly moved away from the scene to avoid their reaction.
When the orphans had enough lucerne, Muwingu led the way to the browsing field. The orphans settled to browse at Kone area, where they were joined again by Kuishi, Sattao, Larro, and Musiara. The morning remained calm as they browsed steadily while making their way towards the mud bath.
At eleven o'clock in the morning, the orphans had their milk and then jumped into the wallowing water. Mulika’s family passed by heading west and did not interact with the group. After wallowing, Kinyei led a soil dusting exercise, after which Olorien led the way back to the browsing field.
The orphans later settled to browse at Kanziku area. Shujaa and Weka scratched against one tree while Bondeni and Kindani shared another. Lodo teamed up with Roho and Olorien, and the trio split from the main herd for a time before rejoining the others as they prepared to return.
At five o'clock in the evening, Weka led the way back to the stockade.
Mulika, Mwende, Moe, Mala, and Jotto arrived at the stockade compound early before the orphans were let out. At six o'clock in the morning, the orphans had their milk, then Mageno led the way out. Lucerne was distributed and all settled for it.
Shortly later, Yatta, Yoyo, Yogi, Yara, Kinna, Kama, Kaia, and Kito showed up, and there was trumpeting and bellowing from Mulika’s family as they welcomed Yatta and Kinna’s families. After the excitement was over, Yoyo shared his pile of lucerne with Weka as Moe engaged Mukutan in a friendly match. Kitich played with Kindani while Esoit and Shujaa settled to scratch on nearby rocks.
After the orphans had enough lucerne, Lodo led the way to the browsing field, while the ex-orphans remained behind for some time before heading west. The orphans settled to browse at Kone area. Bondeni, Lodo, and Weka visited the Kone dam for water and thereafter resumed browsing. Muwingu teamed up with Loldaiga and Roho, while Kitich teamed up with Shujaa.
At around ten o'clock in the morning, the orphans were joined by Sattao, Musiara, Kuishi, and Larro. At eleven o'clock, the ex-orphans escorted the orphans to their noon bottle feeds. After getting their milk, the orphans jumped into the wallowing water and had a spectacular wallow before quitting to participate in a soil dusting exercise.
Mukutan engaged Larro in a pushing game that did not last long, while Kitich played with Choka. After the mud bath activities, the orphans headed east of the mud bath, while Roho teamed up with Sattao, Kuishi, Larro, and Musiara and headed north. Later, Roho changed his mind and withdrew from the group, walking back to catch up with his colleagues at Kanziku area.
In the afternoon, Esoit took a break from browsing to engage Vaarti in a pushing game that ended in a draw.
At five o'clock in the evening, Mageno led the way back to the stockade.
A wild bull showed up early in the morning before the orphans were let out. The bull took a sip of water at the stockade water trough, then disappeared the same way he had appeared.
The orphans had their morning milk at six o’clock, then walked out and settled for lucerne. Shortly later, Jotto emerged from the eastern side and joined them. Mageno and Weka settled to scratch on nearby rocks as Bondeni engaged Choka in a pushing game. Roho engaged Jotto in a light pushing game, and later Kindani led the way to the browsing field.
The orphans settled to browse at Kone area, where Lodo teamed up with Kinyei while Kitich browsed with Vaarti. Mageno and Weka visited the Kone dam for water as Jotto played with Loldaiga. Vaarti held a brief meeting with Esoit, although it was not clear what the two had agreed on.
At eleven o’clock in the morning, Muwingu led the way to the noon bottle feeds. The temperatures were moderate. Soon after the orphans had their milk, Lodo led the team into the water. Only Mukutan, Kitich, Roho, and Choka participated fully in wallowing, while the rest walked out and settled for a soil dusting exercise.
In the afternoon, Mukutan played with Lodo while Vaarti, Kindani, and Loldaiga had a game of rolling on the ground. Shujaa, Weka, Olorien, and Muwingu took a break from browsing and rested under a tree with good shade before resuming when the temperatures dropped to a favourable level.
At five o’clock in the evening, Vaarti led the way back to the stockade.
The orphans settled for lucerne soon after leaving the stockade. Namalok emerged from the eastern side and briefly stopped for water at the stockade trough. Roho walked down and met Namalok, and the two boys entwined their trunks in morning greetings. After this, Namalok and Roho joined the orphans in feeding on lucerne.
Half an hour later, the orphans had enough and were led by Muwingu to the browsing field, where they settled to browse at the Kone area.
At around nine o’clock in the morning, Makena, Merri, Larro, Galana, Gawa, Gala, Wendi, Wiva, Wema, Wimbi, Ithumba, Iman, and Iris passed by the stockade compound heading towards the mud bath side.
Olorien visited the Kone dam for water, while Mageno scratched his itching ear against a tree. The orphans browsed calmly as they slowly made their way towards the mud bath.

It was a quiet morning, with the babies waking to find their milk ready for breakfast. They were all happy and, when it was time to drink, they lined up for their morning bottles. Nasalot and her family were at the stockade, including Mundusi, Nusu, Noah, Nala, Suguroi, and Naleku. They came to drink water, share lucerne, and later walked away. The babies then headed out to the bush for browsing.
Out in the bush, they were more active, with Roho, Lodo, and Choka browsing together. Esoit went to the nearby dam and started playing in the water. The babies later walked to the mud bath for their milk bottles and wallowing.
At the mud bath, Lodo, Mayan, and Vaarti played together. Roho was browsing separately while others enjoyed their milk bottles. Bondeni and Lodo scratched against the same tree, while Mayan, Olorien, and Shujaa rolled in the mud. Mukutan scratched on a tree before the group returned to the bush for browsing.
Back in the bush, it remained dry, and many of the babies stood under the shade. Later, they came out to browse again before beginning their walk home in the evening. All the babies were well on their return to the stockade.
It was a beautiful morning as the babies first had their milk bottles and walked out to feed on lucerne. They enjoyed the lucerne as there were no ex-orphans around. They were all comfortable feeding peacefully before later walking to the bush for browsing.
Out in the bush, they looked very active, each trying to find something to feed on. Loldaiga, Choka, Esoit, Bondeni, Shujaa, and Mukutan were browsing separately. Mukutan later joined Esoit and Choka, and they browsed together. The babies then started walking to the mud bath for their milk bottles and wallowing.
At the mud bath, they enjoyed themselves. After their milk bottles, they went straight into the mud and started playing. Many of them enjoyed it a lot before later heading back to the bush for browsing.
Back in the bush, they were active and browsing well. Mukutan checked on Kindani while Lodo stretched to reach green pasture. Vaarti and Mayan started playfighting, separate from Roho and Kindani. Later, the babies walked back home in the evening for their milk bottles and bedding.
It was a cold morning as the babies woke up to find their milk ready for them. They were very happy and later took their positions for feeding. After feeding, they walked out to feed on lucerne. Today there were no ex-orphans around except Jotto, who came late and joined the babies.
The babies enjoyed the lucerne peacefully without being interfered with. Jotto came in at the last minutes as the babies were leaving for the bush. He had a wound on his stomach, which was checked and reported to the Kaluku office. After one hour, Roan came to check on him, and nothing serious was found. It was just a minor wound from a friend’s tusks, and he was left to continue browsing.
The babies were busy browsing, with Esoit and Choka playing. Kitich and Choka also started playfighting. The rest were browsing before they later walked to the mud bath for their milk bottles and bathing.
At the mud bath, the babies had their milk bottles, and some enjoyed wallowing. Roho and Mukutan had a playfight in the mud. They later walked back to the bush for their evening browsing.
Back in the bush, they were all busy browsing. Kinyei and Mukutan started playing, and later Mukutan began mounting on Mayan. The babies then started walking back home in the evening for their milk bottles.
We received 33 mm of rain this evening. No other elephants were seen, and all the babies were well.
It was a cold morning after we received 32 mm of rainfall during the night. The babies were happy, and you could tell from how active they were from the early morning hours. They woke up to find their milk ready, were fed well, and later walked out to feed on lucerne.
Out in the field, they enjoyed the lucerne as there were no ex-orphans or wild elephants to monopolise them. They fed until the last minute before walking to the bush for browsing.
Back in the bush, the babies were very active and browsing well. Roho browsed next to Lodo, and the two played whenever they wished. Musiara came to join them, stayed for a short time, and later left. Esoit started playfighting with Choka, and the whole group then walked to the mud bath for their milk bottles.
At the mud bath, they had their share of milk as usual, and some walked into the mudhole and started playing. Lodo and Roho enjoyed it a lot. They later came out to play in the dust, with Kinyei being the most playful. Kitich and Vaarti followed her lead and joined in fully. Musiara and Jotto came to join them in wallowing. Jotto’s wound is drying off and he is doing well. They later walked back to the bush for evening browsing.
In the evening, it was still hot, and the babies stood under the shade. They later came out to browse a little before walking back home for their milk bottles and bed. No other ex-orphans appeared, except Musiara and Jotto, who visited at the mud bath.
Another good morning, with the babies waking up happily to find their milk ready. They looked active and content as they had their share and then walked out to feed on lucerne. They enjoyed the lucerne, as there were no ex-orphans around, before later heading to the bush for browsing.
Out in the bush, Choka and Kindani browsed together for the first time. Kitich browsed on his own, while Mageno scratched his neck against a tree. The rest browsed together as a group. The babies later walked to the mud bath for their milk bottles.
At the mud bath, they had their milk and some began playing and rolling in the mud nearby, choosing the smaller rain-filled pools rather than the larger waterholes. They enjoyed this a lot and did not want to go to the big dams. Lodo, as usual, was the most playful. They later walked back to the bush for browsing.
Back in the bush, they enjoyed the evening browsing after the light rain the previous night. The weather remained cool, and they later walked back home in the evening for their milk bottles and bed. The area remained quiet with no ex-orphans around. All the elephants were well, and there was no rain today.
It was a beautiful morning as the babies woke up peacefully and found their milk ready for them. They were well served by the Keepers and then walked out to feed on lucerne.
Garzi came to visit after a long time away in the bush. He had disappeared after getting an injury on his leg, but fortunately it did not go deep and he has now recovered. We were happy to see him back after such a long absence.
The babies enjoyed the lucerne peacefully, with Bondeni and Loldaiga playing. They later walked to the bush for browsing, leaving Garzi still feeding on lucerne.
Back in the bush, the babies browsed well. Choka played at the edge of the dam, scratching his neck. Bondeni played and touched trunks with Kinyei, while Esoit dug into the ground as he played. Esoit later started playfighting with Loldaiga. The babies went to drink water at the dam as they waited for mud bath time. Later, Mayan led the group to the mud bath for their milk bottles.
At the mud bath, they were served their milk, and a few started rolling and playing in the mud. Weka and Loldaiga fully enjoyed the mud. Another group went into the dam and wallowed before all heading back to the bush for evening browsing.
In the evening, they were active and browsing well. Mayan started playfighting with Weka while the rest of the group browsed. Muwingu later led them back home for their milk bottles and bed. There was no rain, and no other elephants were seen.
Today’s morning was very cold, and the babies were up early waiting for their milk bottles. They were later served by the Keepers and walked out to feed on lucerne.
Out in the field, the babies settled on the lucerne and started feeding. They enjoyed it a lot, as there were no ex-orphans around to share with them. Weka scratched her belly, then walked to the water trough to drink before heading to the bush. Shortly later, the group, led by Olorien, moved to the bush for browsing.
Back in the bush, Lodo browsed with Esoit, while Weka and Choka browsed separately. The rest of the babies browsed together as a group. Loldaiga and Vaarti went to the dam to drink, and Mayan joined them. Kitich and Mageno spent some time together. The babies later walked to the mud bath for their milk bottles and wallowing.
At the mud bath, they had their milk bottles and then moved into the water to wallow. Some played in the mud while others did not. Lodo enjoyed a free ride from Muwingu and later started playfighting with Kitich. Mukutan mounted on Bondeni, while others drank water before walking back to the bush for evening browsing.
After the mud bath, the babies returned to the bush. Kindani raised her trunk to smell the air. Vaarti played by rolling on the ground and later engaged Kindani in a playfight. The rest of the babies were active as they prepared for the journey back home.
In the evening, Muwingu led them back to the stockade for their milk bottles and rest. There were no ex-orphans or wild elephants in the area today. There was no rain, but the air remained very humid throughout the day.
The orphans woke up in a joyful mood, expressed by swinging their trunks sideways as they walked out to settle for the morning lucerne. Shujaa, Bondeni, and Roho took some time off from feeding to scratch against the stockade wall.
As soon as the orphans had enough of lucerne, Muwingu led the way to the browsing field. Kitich settled to browse with Weka, while Bondeni browsed with Mayan, Vaarti, and Mukutan. Kinyei developed an itching ear and scratched against a baobab tree.
Lodo visited the Kone dam and was joined by Choka, Esoit, and Olorien. After they had enough water, Lodo led them back to join their colleagues.

Esoit spent some time interacting with Kuishi, while Choka interacted with Kito, Yara, and Kaia. The interaction ended when Choka attempted to bully Kito, and Kinna intervened by chasing Choka away.
Shortly later, the ex-orphans and their families parted ways with the orphans and headed north. The orphans headed west of Ithumba Hill, where they settled to browse for the remaining part of the day. They browsed calmly without any major observation.
In the evening, Weka led the way back to the stockade.
Tusuja arrived at the stockade compound early before dawn and waited outside to join the orphans in the morning. The orphans had their milk at six o’clock, and Shujaa led the way out. Tusuja exchanged morning greetings with Roho by entwining their trunks.
Bondeni, Shujaa, and Weka settled on nearby rocks for scratching. Shortly later, Tusuja accompanied the orphans to the browsing field.
At the browsing field, Kinyei started her day by scratching her itching ear against a tree, while Esoit settled to browse with Vaarti. Weka, Mayan, and Olorien visited the Kone dam for water, while Kitich teamed up with Loldaiga in browsing. Choka took a break from browsing to participate in a soil dusting exercise, while Lodo teamed up with Weka and Muwingu.
Mageno engaged Vaarti in a light pushing game, while Bondeni played with Mukutan. At eleven o’clock in the morning, Muwingu led the way to the noon bottle feeds, and Tusuja left for an undisclosed location.

In the evening, Weka led the way back to the stockade
The orphans woke up in a jovial mood. After getting their milk, Weka led the way out. Roi, Nusu, and Mundusi had arrived at the stockade compound early in anticipation of the new arrivals from Kaluku Nursery.
The orphans shared lucerne with the two ex-orphans and Nusu, who is a wild-born. Shujaa and Lodo settled to scratch their bellies on a nearby rock. Shortly later, Muwingu led the way to the browsing field. Nusu, Roi, and Mundusi remained behind because they did not want to miss the new arrivals. Later, the two boys and one girl gave up and decided to walk away and come back later when the babies had not yet arrived.
At the browsing field, Kinyei came across an anthill and decided to play on it, while Mayan concentrated on peeling bark from a tree. The weather was cloudy, so Choka decided to engage Kitich in a warm-up strength testing exercise.
At around eleven o’clock in the morning, the truck carrying Toto, Natibu, and Mwinzi arrived. The first orphans to meet the three new babies were Mayan and Vaarti, who were last together two years ago. Vaarti at first got shy of meeting the three boys, but Mayan walked straight to meet them. Toto was also shy and ran towards the Keepers. Natibu appeared brave and interacted with Mayan before moving to say hi to Vaarti. Toto then changed his mind and went back to meet Mayan and Vaarti.
When the rest of the team arrived, Toto got overwhelmed and started running towards his Keepers, with Natibu and Mwinzi following. The Ithumba orphans thought it was a game and started trumpeting while running after the three new babies. The Keepers separated Toto, Natibu, and Mwinzi from the Ithumba orphans, giving them space to calm down and start feeding.
The Ithumba orphans were taken for their noon milk feeds at the stockade, while the three new babies remained at the Kone area browsing. After taking their milk, the Ithumba orphans were taken east of Ithumba Hill, where they settled to browse.
In the evening, Toto, Natibu, and Mwinzi were taken to the stockade early before the Ithumba orphans and shown where they would spend the night. They were put between Class One and Class Three, where they would be surrounded by their new herd.
In the evening, Mundusi, Roi, and Nusu arrived and settled for water as they surveyed the stockade compound. They did not manage to meet the new babies because they had already been shown into their bedrooms, but they will meet them another day.
Nasalot, Noah, Nala, Naleku, Suguroi, Larro, Sattao, and Ndiwa arrived at the stockade compound early in the morning before the orphans were let out. Toto, Mwinzi, and Natibu were the first to leave the stockade soon after getting their morning milk. Mwinzi settled to scratch his itching neck against the stockade wall, as Toto and Natibu went straight for lucerne.
Larro and Sattao settled to scratch on nearby rocks, as Kinyei did a stretching exercise by stepping on one of the nearby rocks. Ndiwa walked close to Toto, Natibu, and Mwinzi and tried to get their attention, as she wanted to know them better. Shortly later, Mwinzi started walking away and everyone followed him.
Lodo had a light strength testing exercise with Suguroi, as Roho engaged Sattao in a serious pushing game. Their game ended when Roho got tired and walked away.
At the browsing field, Natibu settled to browse with Mwinzi, while Toto browsed close to the Keepers. Later, Toto walked to join Natibu and Mwinzi. Ndiwa walked to where the three new babies were feeding and spent some time with them. Olorien also joined them for some time before walking away. Ndiwa tried to lie down and have the three new babies play on her, but they appeared uninterested and continued to browse.
Ndiwa then walked away and met Roho, who engaged her in a pushing game.
At eleven o’clock in the morning, Muwingu led the way to the noon bottle feeds. After the orphans had their milk, the Keepers directed them to have a mud bath, but they only walked through the water because of the low temperatures. Only Kitich and Choka participated fully in the wallowing exercise, while the rest of the team opted for a soil dusting exercise.
In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse east of Ithumba Hill. They concentrated on browsing throughout the remaining part of the day.
In the evening, Toto, Natibu, and Mwinzi were put in the first group and led the way back to the stockade for their second night in Ithumba.
Toto, Natibu, and Mwinzi were the first ones to leave the stockade soon after getting their morning milk. The rest of the group followed later. Kinyei walked straight to Natibu and exchanged morning greetings before moving to greet Mwinzi. Toto kept moving from one elephant to another and back to the Keepers.
Shortly later, Muwingu led the way to the browsing field. The orphans settled to browse east of the stockade. At the browsing field, Esoit tried to bully Mwinzi but was told off by the Keepers. Mageno settled to browse with Loldaiga, while Bondeni, Olorien, Kitich, Vaarti, and Mayan settled for a brief soil bathing exercise. Natibu and Mwinzi stood close to Kitich and watched how he was doing the soil dusting exercise. The two boys later practised what they learned from Kitich before resuming browsing.
At around ten o’clock in the morning, Vaarti and Lodo came across water collected on a rock and enjoyed drinking before rejoining their team. At eleven o’clock, Muwingu led the first group to the noon bottle feeds. After the orphans had their milk, Lodo led the team into wallowing, but Toto, Mwinzi, and Natibu refused to go through the water.
Later, Natibu had a brief interaction with Mayan. After wallowing, the orphans settled for a soil dusting exercise. On the way back to the browsing field, Mayan developed an itchy chest and picked a stick from the ground, which he used to scratch the area.
In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse west of Ithumba Hill. Bondeni developed an itchy ear and scratched it against a tree. Mayan settled to browse with Kitich and Vaarti, while Weka settled to browse with Natibu and Mwinzi.
At five o’clock in the evening, Toto led the way back to the stockade.
Mukutan and Roho had a brief meeting soon after leaving the stockade in the morning. Their meeting ended with a pushing game that saw Mukutan bow out after Roho proved to be much stronger than him. Esoit settled to scratch on a nearby rock, while Kindani teamed up with Mwinzi and Natibu in feeding on lucerne. Mukutan moved to share lucerne with Bondeni, but later Bondeni pushed him away.
After lucerne feeding time, Muwingu led the way to the browsing field. The orphans settled to browse north of the stockade. Kitich, who has developed some interest in Toto, Natibu, and Mwinzi, spent the better part of the morning with the three new boys.
Later, Vaarti had a brief meeting with Natibu and Mwinzi before walking away to team up with Mayan. Mageno and Toto came across nice rocks that they used to scratch their bellies. Choka, Olorien, and Lodo took a break from browsing to participate in a soil bathing exercise. Kinyei walked over to Toto and browsed with him for some time before Toto moved to feed close to his Keepers.
Shortly before mud bath time, Mukutan met again with Roho and engaged in a strength testing exercise, while Esoit played with Kitich. At eleven o’clock in the morning, Muwingu led the way to the noon bottle feeds. After getting their milk, the orphans walked through the wallowing water and finally settled for a soil dusting exercise.
Shortly later, the orphans were joined by Olsekki. Olsekki challenged Kitich, Roho, and Lodo, and when the challenge turned too rough, the Keepers asked Olsekki to leave instead of bullying the younger ones.
In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse at the Kanziku area. It was a quiet afternoon as they browsed calmly throughout the remaining part of the day.
At five o’clock in the evening, Toto led the first group back to the stockade.
It was a fourth morning for Toto, Natibu, and Mwinzi to wake up in Ithumba. The three boys were the first ones to leave the stockade soon after taking their morning milk. The rest of the group followed.
At the lucerne feeding venue, Shujaa interacted briefly with Toto, as Mukutan engaged Roho in a strength testing exercise. Shortly later, Mageno led the way to the browsing field.
At the browsing field, Lodo played with Roho, as Esoit teamed up with Weka in browsing. At around nine o’clock in the morning, Roi, Gawa, Wiva, Naserian, Njema, Nyika, Lulu, Wimbi, Wema, Lualeni, Lexi, and Luki passed by the stockade compound and briefly had water before leaving to an undisclosed location.
Olorien settled to browse with Bondeni, while Kitich played with Loldaiga. At eleven o’clock in the morning, Muwingu led the way to the noon bottle feeds. After having their milk, Choka, Bondeni, Kindani, Muwingu, Lodo, and Loldaiga jumped into the wallowing water and participated fully in the wallowing exercise. The rest of the group opted for a soil dusting exercise.
In the afternoon, Kinyei settled to browse with Toto, Natibu, and Mwinzi. The three boys later walked away and started interacting with the other orphans.
In the evening, the orphans passed by the Kone dam and had water before Toto led the first group back to the stockade.
The orphans settled for lucerne soon after leaving the stockade. Lodo teamed up with Mukutan and Mayan in feeding on lucerne. Shortly later, Mageno led the way to the browsing field.
Vaarti and Esoit settled to scratch their side bellies against a tree, while Mayan settled to browse with Shujaa. Kinyei settled to browse with Olorien, Toto, Natibu, and Mwinzi. Later, Toto, Natibu, and Mwinzi left and joined Kitich in feeding. Mageno joined them and took Natibu and Mwinzi aside and had a brief conversation as they enjoyed feeding on the green grass.
Vaarti took a break from feeding and engaged Choka in a strength testing exercise. At eleven o’clock in the morning, Muwingu led the first group to the noon bottle feeds. After the orphans had their milk, Roho, Olorien, Kitich, and Loldaiga settled for mud bathing, while the rest of the group opted for a soil dusting exercise.
In the afternoon, Kitich spent the better part of his time feeding with Toto, Natibu, and Mwinzi. Choka, Kinyei, and Esoit took a break from browsing to have fun by performing a soil dusting exercise, while Vaarti played with Mukutan.
In the evening, Toto led the first group back to the stockade for yet another night.
The orphans settled for lucerne soon after leaving the stockade. Natibu shared his pile of lucerne with Mwinzi, while Kinyei walked down to the water trough for a drink. She was joined by Vaarti and Shujaa, and soon after getting enough water, the trio went back and joined their colleagues.
Kitich and Mageno settled to scratch on nearby rocks, while Olorien had a brief lone game of sitting and raising her trunk up. Roho exchanged morning greetings with Esoit by entwining their trunks, while Bondeni played with Vaarti.
Half an hour later, Mayan led the way to the browsing field. At the browsing field, Loldaiga came across rainwater collected on a rock and settled for it. Mwinzi came across a nice rock that he used to scratch his belly. Roho, Mageno, Lodo, Esoit, Mayan, and Choka visited the Kone dam briefly for water and thereafter returned to join their colleagues in browsing.
Loldaiga took a break from browsing to have a lone game of rolling on the ground. At eleven o’clock in the morning, Vaarti led the first group to the noon bottle feeds. After getting their milk, Shujaa, Mageno, Loldaiga, Roho, and Choka settled for mud bathing, while their colleagues opted to browse close by, waiting for the Keepers to have lunch before returning to the browsing field.
In the afternoon, Roho engaged Kinyei in a light pushing game, while Muwingu teamed up with Mageno in browsing.
In the evening, Toto led Natibu and Mwinzi in the first group back to the stockade.
Olsekki, Roi, Mundusi, and Nusu were at the stockade compound in the morning. The three ex-orphans and one wild-born settled to share lucerne with the orphans. Mundusi had a strength testing exercise with Roho, and Roho surrendered when the going got tough for him.
Kindani had a brief meeting with Mukutan, as Weka met with Natibu and Mwinzi. Their meeting ended when Weka attempted to bully the two boys. When the orphans had enough of lucerne, Kinyei led the way to the browsing field.
Kitich settled to browse with Toto, Natibu, and Mwinzi, as Kinyei teamed up with Lodo. Later, Lodo, Roho, Mayan, and Olorien visited the Kone dam for water and thereafter resumed browsing.
Shortly after eight o’clock in the morning, Yatta, Yoyo, Yogi, Yara, Kinna, Kama, Kaia, Kito, and Motomo passed close by on their way to the stockade. The orphans raised their trunks in the air as if waving to the ex-orphans’ families, but the ex-orphans passed without stopping.
Esoit engaged Mukutan in a brief strength testing exercise and later had a brief meeting with Roho. Their meeting ended when Roho refused to listen to Esoit and pushed him away. Esoit then moved to play with Mageno, and their game went on for quite some time, with neither playing rough.
At eleven o’clock in the morning, Kitich led the first group to the noon bottle feeds. After having their milk, Weka, Lodo, Loldaiga, and Choka settled for wallowing, while Toto, Natibu, and Mwinzi only splashed water behind their ears before stepping aside for a brief soil dusting exercise.
Mwinzi found a bent tree that he used to scratch his buttocks. Lodo, Kinyei, Kindani, and Kitich also scratched against different trees.
In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse at the Kanziku area. They browsed calmly throughout the remaining part of the day without any observation.
In the evening, Weka led the way back to the stockade.
Soon after leaving the stockade in the morning, Mwinzi, Shujaa, and Muwingu settled for a scratching exercise on rocks close to the lucerne feeding venue, as the rest of the team settled for lucerne. Olorien and Roho had a game of sitting with their trunks raised in the air. Kitich came close to Roho and started pushing him up, while Kindani helped Olorien get up. Mukutan and Bondeni had a brief strength testing exercise that did not last long.
Half an hour later, Kindani led the way to the browsing field. At the browsing field, Mayan settled to browse with Vaarti, while Mageno engaged Kindani in a light pushing game. Mwinzi settled to browse with Natibu, as Toto teamed up with Kitich. Mukutan engaged Esoit in a pushing game that ended in a draw, after which Esoit moved to play with Loldaiga.
Kinyei settled to browse with Lodo and Bondeni, and at one point they competed to see who could reach the highest leaves on a tree. Kinyei, being tall and having a long trunk, won the competition.
At eleven o’clock in the morning, Mayan led the first group to the noon bottle feeds. After the orphans had their milk, Mukutan, Lodo, Loldaiga, Weka, Kinyei, Kitich, and Olorien settled for mud bathing.
In the afternoon, Toto and Mwinzi settled to debark a tree using their small tusks under the close supervision of Kindani. Mageno took a break from feeding to participate in a soil dusting exercise, while Loldaiga settled to scratch against a tree. Lodo came across a bush mud bath and had fun in it, watched by Roho, Weka, and Choka.
In the evening, Toto led the first group back to the stockade.
Toto was the first one to leave the stockade when the orphans were let out. Shujaa left with a leftover branch in his mouth, which he dropped when he got to the lucerne feeding venue. Mwinzi, Toto, and Natibu settled to scratch on a nearby rock before settling for lucerne.
Kinyei had a game of lying down but was disrupted by Roho, who came to climb on her. Lodo settled to share his pile of lucerne with Kindani and Bondeni, as Esoit engaged Mukutan in a strength testing exercise. Kinyei then turned against Roho and engaged him in a pushing game, as if demanding answers for disrupting her game.
On the way to the browsing field, Loldaiga held a brief meeting with Bondeni that ended in a pushing game. Vaarti, Mwinzi, Natibu, Olorien, Kindani, and Weka took a break from browsing to have fun by rolling on the wet ground following the rains received overnight.
Later, Mwinzi and Natibu held a brief meeting with Esoit, which ended when Esoit threatened to push the two boys. Mayan, Roho, Choka, Mageno, and Muwingu visited the Kone dam for water and thereafter resumed browsing.

In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse at the Kanziku area. Mageno spent most of his time peeling bark from trees, which he did easily using his tusks. He was later joined by Mwinzi in debarking the trees.

Kindani, Mayan, Vaarti, and Choka visited the Kone dam to drink water. After drinking enough water, the four orphans returned to join their colleagues in browsing.
