On the lst only Edo joined Malaika feeding below Daniel's house.

03 August 1999

The orphans spent the next day alone but on the 3rd met up with 10 wild elephants and 3 calves near Daniel's house.

04 August 1999

On the 4th the orphans, with Edo in tow met up with a huge herd of wild elephants, but did not stay long with them.

05 August 1999

On the 5th Edo and Malaika's group again met wild elephants and were together with them until noon. That evening Dika and Ndume were waiting at the Stockades.

06 August 1999

On the 6th our orphans spent the day with a wild group of 3 adults and 2 calves and were joined back at the Stockades by Dika, Edo and Ndume.

07 August 1999

On the 7th they were again joined by the 3 Boys at 11 a.m. and were all joined by a wild herd who wallowed with them. On the way back they were joined briefly by another wild herd.

08 August 1999

The 8th was spent with only Edo but Dika and Ndume turned up at the Stockades in the evening. The 3 boys joined Malaika's group at the mudbath and came back with them to the Stockades in the evening where they were joined by a wild bull the size of Edo, who was very happy to see them. (Could this be Ajok?)

10 August 1999

After mudbath on the 10th the orphans were joined by 2 bulls who spent the afternoon with them. Dika and Ndume came back to the Stockades in the evening, without Edo.

11 August 1999

On the 11th our orphans were joined by a wild herd at 10 a.m. who accompanied them to the mudbath down at the river. The orphans had a wonderful time playing with calves their size and eventually left the wild herd at the Airfield on the way home. The Boys were with our orphans. Today Emily, Aitong and Mweiga who were previously in the other small Stockade, were moved into Malaika's Stockade and Malaika's group was outside. They left the Stockade at midnight to feed below the Research Centre.

12 August 1999

On the 12th at 9.30 a.m. Malaika's group was joined by a huge herd which was with them until mudbath. In the afternoon another herd joined them and were with them until they returned to the Stockade to find Emily's little family inside.

13 August 1999

On the 13th Malaika's group left the Stockades at midnight but were back at 7.45 a.m. accompanied by Edo and Ndume.

14 August 1999

On the 14th our Orphans met a wild herd at l0 a.m. with whom they spent l hour. At the Stockades in the evening they met up with Catherine and her family and they all hung around.

15 August 1999

After mudbath on the 15th our orphans were joined by a wild group at l.50 p.m. amongst whom was a friend of Dika's with whom he played until 3.40 p.m. before returning with Malaika to the Stockades.

16 August 1999

On the 16th a wild group joined the orphans after their mudbath

18 August 1999

On the 18th Edo, Ndume and Dika were with Malaika's group at mudbath. They all met up with a wild group in the afternoon with whom they spent an hour.

19 August 1999

On the 19th only Edo was with our orphans down at the river.

20 August 1999

After the mudbath the orphans were joined by a wild group, two of which had very small babies who played with Lewa and Uaso.

21 August 1999

On the 2lst our orphans were joined by a wild group down at the river. The 3 Big Boys were with Malaika and remained with her on the 22nd.

23 August 1999

On the 23rd Malaika's group was joined by Dika down at the river and later by a wild group at the Wallow. Lewa and Uaso had a good time playing with wild calves their size and they all left together to be joined by another two wild herds at 3.30 p.m. Dika remained with the wild elephants when the others returned home.

24 August 1999

On the 24th Dika joined Malaika to feed around the hill until the mudbath when they were joined by a wild herd which remained with them until 3 p.m. Dika arrived at the Stockades ahead of Malaika joined later by Edo and Ndume.

26 August 1999

Edo and Ndume were with Malaika on the 26th and they met up with Dika down at the river. At 3 p.m. they were joined by a large herd with whom they interacted for an hour. The 3 Big Boys escorted Malaika back. Edo and Ndume were with Malaika's group when they left the Stockades and met up with Dika behind the hill.

28 August 1999

On the 28th Malaika's group met up with wild elephants at 11 a.m. and were with them until midday. The Boys joined Malaika at 4.45 p.m. and returned with her to the Stockades.

29 August 1999

On the 29th she met The Boys at l0 a.m. near the river. Lissa and Lara turned up at the mudbath and spend the rest of the afternoon with our orphans, remaining behind when they left for home in the evening.

30 August 1999

On the 30th only Edo accompanied Malaika. They were joined by 3 wild bulls and some cows with calves on the East side of the hill who accompanied them to the river and remained with them until 5 p.m.
