Vaarti
The orphans settled for lucerne soon after leaving the stockade. Vaarti, Naleku, Mayan, and Suguroi walked down to the water trough to drink. Shortly later, a junior wild bull emerged from the eastern side and joined the four orphans in drinking water. Mayan and Vaarti raised their trunks to find out if they really knew the wild elephant. The junior wild bull was calm and left minutes later after taking a sip of water. Vaarti and Mayan tried to follow the wild bull but were turned back by the Keepers.
Kindani, Bondeni, and Kinyei headed west while the rest of the group headed south. The Keepers couldn’t allow the split and so turned back Kinyei, Bondeni, and Kindani to join the majority. The orphans settled to browse around the Kone Dam. Bondeni teamed up with Esoit, Mayan, and Vaarti in browsing, while Kinyei found a nice rock that she used to scratch her buttocks.
At ten minutes to eleven o’clock in the morning, Sidai, Silas, Sid, Wema, Ishanga, and Siku arrived at the stockade compound. Half a minute later, Sunyei, followed by a tiny baby who happened to be her third daughter, arrived and joined the rest of the group in drinking water. Wema appeared to have ditched her mother Wendi to join Saba and Siku in taking care of Sunyei’s new baby. The group stayed at the stockade compound for only five minutes, then headed towards the mud bath.
At eleven o’clock in the morning, Olorien led the orphans to the noon bottle feeds. After having their milk, the orphans were briefly joined by Yatta, Yana, Kinna, Kito, Kaia, Kama, Yogi, Yetu, Yebo, Naisula, Nyx, Mteto, Aesampu, Lualeni, Luki, Lulu, and Lexi. Naleku, Suguroi, Loldaiga, Mukutan, and Choka went around greeting the wild-born babies of the ex-orphans.
The ex-orphans headed north of the mud bath, while the orphans headed south. The afternoon was quiet as the orphans browsed calmly throughout the remaining part of the day. In the evening, Vaarti led the way back to the stockade.
Musiara, Kuishi, Sattao, and Larro joined the orphans in the morning soon after the orphans were let out. Bondeni and Kindani settled for scratching exercises on the nearby rocks as they waited for the distribution of lucerne. Musiara engaged Sattao in a pushing game that lasted for quite some time before ending in a draw. After the orphans had their lucerne, Olorien led the way to the browsing field.
The orphans headed straight to the Kone Dam area. Kinyei and Kindani took a break from browsing to participate in a soil dusting exercise. Mayan teamed up with Vaarti and Choka in browsing, while Lodo teamed up with Loldaiga and Mukutan. The rest of the morning was quiet as the orphans browsed calmly, slowly making their way towards the mud bath.
Kuishi, Larro, Musiara, and Sattao parted ways with the orphans and left for an undisclosed location. At mud bath time, the orphans had their milk and then headed straight for wallowing. After having enough of wallowing, the orphans settled for a soil dusting exercise before returning to the browsing field.
The orphans settled to browse west of Ithumba Hill. Lodo teamed up with Bondeni and Roho in browsing, while Olorien, Kindani, Suguroi, and Naleku took a break from feeding to enjoy rolling on the ground. At around four o’clock in the evening, Makireti, Kilabasi, Kofi, Tusuja, Neshashi, and Makireti’s new baby arrived at the stockade compound. This was to make an announcement about Makireti becoming a new mother.
Neshashi enjoyed the sole responsibility of playing nanny to Makireti’s new baby. This will be a year to remember, with many babies born. Now we wait for the next birth, bearing in mind that Kilabasi, Naserian, Wendi, Nasalot, Suguta, and Mutara are all pregnant.
The orphans settled for lucerne soon after leaving the stockade. Musiara, who arrived early before dawn, joined the orphans in feeding on lucerne. A wild bull passed by and made a brief stopover at the water trough. Musiara walked down to check if he knew the wild bull. The wild bull didn’t bother about Musiara but continued on his journey heading east. Musiara returned and rejoined the orphans.
Moments later, the ex-orphans passed by the stockade compound as they headed west. The orphans abandoned the lucerne and joined the ex-orphans. Naleku and Suguroi were particularly interested in spending time with Makireti’s son. The Keepers intervened by calling the orphans, as they all seemed keen to leave with the ex-orphans. The Keepers steered the orphans towards Kone area, where they settled to browse.
Mukutan settled to browse with Choka, while Lodo teamed up with Suguroi, Naleku, and Olorien. The orphans browsed calmly up to eleven o’clock in the morning, when Kindani led the first group to the mud bath. The sky was cloudy and the temperatures were low. The orphans had their milk, then water, before returning to the browsing field. Only Loldaiga, Lodo, and Esoit participated in a soil dusting exercise.
In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse west of Ithumba Hill, where they browsed calmly throughout the rest of the day without any major observation. In the evening, Loldaiga led the way back to the stockade.
Loldaiga and Choka were the first to leave the stockades this morning. The two boys started their day with a scratching session along the stockade wall. The rest of the orphans focused on their lucerne, and about an hour later, Naleku led the way out to the browsing field.
Once at the browsing area, the orphans were joined by Musiara, Sattao, Kuishi, and Larro. Loldaiga teamed up with Roho for browsing, while Kuishi joined Esoit, Choka, Mukutan, and Olorien. Along the way, Suguroi came across a small bush mud bath and decided to cool off early. She was soon joined by Naleku, Musiara, Lodo, and Kindani.
At eleven o’clock, Vaarti led the first group to the midday bottle feeds. After their milk, the orphans were briefly joined by Kinna, Kama, Kaia, Kito, Naisula, Nyx, Esampu, Mteto, Tusuja, and Oltiayoni. Esoit, Lodo, Kuishi, Musiara, Larro, and Tusuja took the opportunity to jump into the waterhole for a refreshing wallow.
In the afternoon, Bondeni and Esoit had a disagreement during a private meeting, which quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. Kuishi, who was nearby, stepped in promptly and separated the two boys before things got out of hand.
Later in the evening, as the orphans began heading back to the stockades, Mukutan was nowhere to be found. It turned out he had been inadvertently ‘kidnapped’ by Kuishi and her team, who had no intention of returning to the stockades that night. Mukutan, however, realised he did not want to miss his evening milk and decided to part ways with them. The Keepers mounted a quick search and eventually spotted Mukutan making his way back, clearly determined not to miss out on his bottle.
The orphans settled for lucerne soon after leaving the stockades. Shortly afterwards, Yatta and her family showed up and joined them for the lucerne feeding. Wema, who is Wendi's second baby, appeared to have abandoned her mother in order to help Yatta look after Yana—since neither Yogi nor Yoyo seem interested in checking on their younger sister.
Before long, Yatta and her family departed to an undisclosed location. Naleku then led the orphans out to the browsing field. They settled to browse in the Kone Dam area, where they were joined by Musiara, Kuishi, Sattao, and Larro. Esoit walked over to greet Larro and Kuishi as part of their morning interactions.
The orphans browsed calmly as they made their way toward the mud bath. At eleven o'clock, Mayan led the way to the noon bottle feeds. After finishing their milk, the orphans took some water and then returned to the browsing field.
The afternoon passed quietly, with the orphans browsing calmly without any major observations. In the evening, Loldaiga led the way back to the stockades.
Soon after settling down for lucerne, the orphans were joined by Lenana, Lapa, and Laki. Vaarti tried to spend some time with Laki but was pushed away by Lapa. Vaarti consoled himself by scratching on a nearby rock. Loldaiga, Choka, and Mukutan stretched their trunks out, hoping to get Laki’s attention and invite her for a greeting, but Laki was hesitant — he didn’t quite trust the three boys.
Roho had a disagreement with Lapa, which turned into a pushing game that ended in a draw. Once the orphans had finished feeding on lucerne, Suguroi led the way to the browsing field. They settled at their favourite spot in the Kone area and were later joined by Musiara, Kuishi, Sattao, and Larro. Esoit teamed up with Larro, while Bondeni chose to browse with Musiara and Kindani.
The orphans browsed calmly as they slowly made their way toward the mud bath. At eleven o'clock, Mayan led the first group for the midday milk feed. After enjoying their bottles, the orphans participated in a mud bath before heading back to the browsing fields.
In the afternoon, they settled in the Imenti area. Loldaiga spent some time testing his strength by attempting to push over a tree. However, the tree proved too strong, and he gave up and returned to browsing. Meanwhile, Roho engaged Kindani in a light-hearted pushing game that continued for quite some time.
In the evening, Loldaiga once again took the lead, guiding the orphans back to the stockade.
It was a quiet morning. The orphans settled for lucerne soon after leaving the stockade. They were joined briefly by Musiara, Sattao, Larro, and Kuishi, who didn’t stay for long. The two boys and two girls headed west of the stockade, while the orphans made their way south and settled to browse in the Kone Dam area.
Lodo, Roho, Bondeni, and Mukutan visited the dam for a drink before rejoining their friends in the browsing field. Loldaiga and Mayan engaged in a brief strength-testing exercise, which came to an end when Naleku passed close by and pushed the two boys away.
The orphans browsed calmly as they made their way toward the mud bath. At eleven o’clock, Vaarti led the first group, followed by Suguroi with the second. After having their milk, the orphans enjoyed a short wallow before heading back to the browsing fields.
Esoit chose to browse with Mayan, while Kindani teamed up with Bondeni. Later, the orphans took a break from feeding to relax under the shade of a tree, resuming browsing once the temperatures dropped to a more comfortable level.
In the evening, Loldaiga led the way back to the stockade.
Loldaiga was the first to leave the stockade soon after taking his milk. Roho met with Lodo, and the two immediately locked trunks in a morning greeting and brief strength-testing exercise. The orphans briefly settled on lucerne before being led to the browsing field by Naleku.
They settled to browse in the Kone area. Mayan, Lodo, Bondeni, and Vaarti walked over to the Kone Dam for a drink before resuming browsing. Musiara emerged from the nearby bushes and joined the orphans. It remains unclear which group Jotto joined after parting ways with Musiara. The two boys had been in hiding for a full year—perhaps Jotto went to look for Ambo and Kauro, who used to be his close friends.
Lodo teamed up with Mayan and Vaarti, while Kindani browsed with Kinyei and Bondeni. At eleven o’clock, Suguroi led the first group to the mud bath, followed by Olorien with the second group. The orphans had their milk, then enjoyed a mud bath before returning to the browsing field.
In the afternoon, Mukutan browsed with Kinyei while Choka teamed up with Loldaiga. Naleku spent most of the afternoon peeling bark from trees. In the evening, Loldaiga once again led the way back to the stockade.
The orphans settled for lucerne soon after leaving the stockade. Vaarti shared lucerne with Esoit and Loldaiga, while Lodo engaged Roho in a pushing game. Shortly later, Esoit found a nice rock and used it to scratch his belly. He was joined by Loldaiga and Mukutan.
Suguroi, having had enough lucerne, decided to start her journey to the browsing field. At first, no one followed her, prompting her to make a low rumble, calling her colleagues to join. Naleku responded and began following, with the rest of the group gradually doing the same.
The orphans settled to browse in the Kone area, where they were briefly joined by a wild herd. Choka, Mukutan, Loldaiga, Mayan, and Roho attempted to follow the wild herd but were blocked by the Keepers.
The orphans continued to browse calmly as they slowly made their way toward the mud bath. At eleven o'clock in the morning, Olorien led the first group for the midday bottle feeds, while Kindani led the second. After their milk, the orphans headed to wallow, but only Kindani, Lodo, and Roho fully participated in the activity. The rest simply walked through the water to wash their feet before settling into a soil dusting exercise.
In the afternoon, the orphans browsed west of Ithumba Hill. They remained calm and peaceful for the rest of the day, with no major observations recorded.
Loldaiga and Mukutan settled for a scratching exercise immediately after leaving the stockade. Kuishi, Sattao, Larro, and Musiara, who had arrived at the stockade compound early before the orphans were let out, stood outside patiently waiting to interact with them. Kindani, Lodo, Larro, and Musiara searched for suitable rocks to scratch their bellies. Kinyei exchanged morning greetings with Bondeni as Mukutan engaged Esoit in a light pushing game. Shortly later, Mukutan surrendered, and Roho took over by engaging Sattao in a strength-testing exercise.
Kuishi and her team escorted the orphans to the browsing field. Kuishi, Suguroi, Musiara, and Naleku visited the Kone Dam for water before resuming browsing.
At eleven o’clock in the morning, Mayan led the way to the midday bottle feeds. After receiving their milk, the orphans were joined by a hostile bull in musth, who even charged at the Keepers. The bull was in the company of Kitirua. Due to the aggression of the wild bull, the mud bath session was cut short. Naleku led the orphans away and back to the browsing field.
On the way, the orphans met with Nusu and Mundusi and interacted briefly before parting ways. The orphans settled to browse west of Ithumba Hill and remained calm throughout the rest of the day.
In the evening, Loldaiga led the way back to the stockade.
Kinna and her three babies—Kama, Kaia, and Kito—were already at the stockade compound before dawn. Kaia and Kito were still sleeping comfortably while their mother, Kinna, and her first daughter, Kama, kept watch over them.
After the orphans received their morning milk, they were let out. Choka, Mukutan, and Loldaiga exchanged morning greetings with Kama and sought permission to interact with her younger sisters, Kito and Kaia. Kama was hesitant, but the three boys pushed their way through to greet the younger girls.
Naleku, Vaarti, and Mayan settled to scratch on nearby rocks. About half an hour later, Kinna and her family headed east to meet with their colleagues, while the orphans headed south, led by Suguroi. They settled to browse at the Kone area. Bondeni teamed up with Loldaiga, while Kindani browsed alongside Suguroi and Mukutan.
At eleven o’clock in the morning, Lodo led the way for the midday bottle feeds. Several ex-orphans were at the mud bath, along with a number of wild bulls who were trying to court Wiva. Due to the chaotic situation with the bulls competing and showing hostility to anything in their way, the mud bath session was cut short.
Immediately after their milk, the Keepers steered the orphans east to avoid any confrontation with the aggressive bulls. The orphans settled to browse in the Kanziku area until around five o’clock in the evening, when Loldaiga led the first group back to the stockade.
The orphans settled to feed on lucerne soon after leaving the stockade. Esoit took a moment to scratch against a nearby rock while Naleku attempted to bully Choka and Loldaiga. The Keepers quickly intervened, shouting at Naleku to stop her bad behaviour.
Kindani shared a pile of lucerne with Kinyei, while Roho tried to snatch food from Suguroi’s mouth. Upset by Roho’s behaviour, Suguroi chose to walk away from him. Once the orphans had eaten their fill, Lodo led the way to the browsing field.
Suguroi paired up with Naleku to browse, while Bondeni teamed up with Mukutan. The orphans settled at the Kone area and browsed quietly throughout the morning. At eleven o’clock, Naleku led the way to the midday bottle feeds. After having their milk and some water, the orphans returned to the browsing field and moved east of Ithumba Hill to continue feeding.
In the evening, just as the Keepers were preparing to return the orphans to the stockade, Suguroi suddenly dodged them and climbed up the hill. It took the Keepers nearly forty-five minutes to locate and walk her back down. It remains unclear what Suguroi was thinking by attempting to dodge the Keepers at such a late hour. A group of ex-orphans had passed nearby during the day, and it’s possible she was trying to follow or join them.
After getting their morning milk, Loldaiga led the way out. The orphans briefly settled for lucerne before Naleku led the way to the browsing field. Choka shared his pile of lucerne with Mukutan, while Esoit and Mayan settled to scratch on nearby rocks.
At the browsing field, Kindani, Mayan, Lodo, Suguroi, Olorien, Kinyei, and Esoit took a break from feeding to enjoy a game of rolling on the ground. After having enough fun, the orphans resumed browsing as they slowly made their way toward the mud bath.
It was a peaceful moment as the orphans took their milk at eleven o’clock in the morning and then settled for wallowing. No single wild elephant or ex-orphan showed up. Even Kuishi, Larro, Sattao, and Musiara—who occasionally join the orphans—were nowhere to be seen.

An hour later, Naleku led the way to the browsing field. Esoit, Kuishi, and Larro stopped at the stockade water trough for a drink before following their colleagues. The orphans settled to browse in the Kone area. Roho and Lodo visited the Kone dam for water, then resumed browsing.
Kuishi, Sattao, Larro, and Musiara later parted ways with the orphans and headed east to an undisclosed location. The orphans continued to browse calmly as they slowly made their way toward the mud bath.
At eleven o'clock, Vaarti led the way to the mud bath. After having their milk, the orphans walked to the wallowing water and tested the temperature with their feet. The water seemed too cold, so they simply walked through it without wallowing. They then settled for a soil dusting exercise before returning to the browsing field.
In the afternoon, Mayan and Loldaiga assisted each other in peeling the bark from the same tree. Naleku came over and pushed the two boys away, taking over the task. She enjoyed peeling the bark for a while before quitting once she’d had enough. Kinyei browsed alongside Lodo, while Olorien teamed up with Suguroi and Roho.
In the evening, the orphans returned safely to the stockade.
Mutara, Mambo, Sities, Sunni, Turkwel, Suguta, Maramoja, Kainuk, Malkia, Sana Sana, Naboishu, Ndiwa, and Olsekki joined the orphans in the morning for lucerne feeding. The group had been away for some time and appeared to have grown larger. Choka interacted with Mambo briefly before moving to say hello to Sunni. Mayan shared his pile of lucerne with Lodo, while Kindani settled to scratch on nearby rocks.

Yatta and her family — Yetu, Yoyo, Yogi, Yebo, and Yara — showed up in the morning and joined the orphans for lucerne feeding. Shortly afterward, Enkikwe and Sapalan arrived and joined in, sharing lucerne with those present. Half an hour later, Yatta and her group departed, while Naleku led the orphans toward the Kone area, where they settled to browse.
Kindani and Loldaiga took a break from feeding to enjoy a soil dusting exercise. Their game was interrupted when Roho came over and attempted to climb onto Kindani for a free ride. Roho then turned his attention to Lodo, engaging him in a strength-testing exercise that lasted for quite some time.
At eleven o'clock, Vaarti led the way to the noon bottle feeds. With moderate temperatures, the orphans enjoyed their milk before Lodo, Roho, Suguroi, Olorien, Vaarti, and Esoit participated in a mud bath. Afterwards, they all took part in a soil dusting session.
In the afternoon, the orphans browsed west of Ithumba Hill. It was a calm and quiet time, with no notable incidents as the orphans focused on feeding.
On the way back to the stockades, Suguroi — who is increasingly becoming a mischievous girl — dodged the Keepers in the thick bushes and took Esoit along with her. As the Keepers reached the final point to regroup the orphans into their respective classes, they were shocked to find Suguroi and Esoit missing, even though the two had started the return journey with the others.
Some Keepers immediately went back to search for the missing duo. Eventually, Suguroi and Esoit were found near the mud bath, completely unconcerned about the time or the worry they had caused. The Keepers then walked the two orphans safely back to the stockades.
The orphans settled for lucerne soon after leaving the stockade in the morning. Olorien shared her pile of lucerne with Bondeni, while Esoit settled to scratch on a nearby rock. Lodo had a disagreement with Mayan that turned into a pushing game. Later, Lodo had a meeting with Vaarti and Bondeni. Naleku walked down to the water trough, but no one followed her, as she has become a bully to most of the junior orphans.
At the browsing field, Kindani teamed up with Olorien and Bondeni, while Roho settled to browse with Vaarti. Lodo teamed up with Mukutan, while Choka browsed with Loldaiga. Suguroi, Esoit, Kinyei, and Kindani visited the Kone dam for water and later returned to catch up with their colleagues.

At the time of returning to the stockade, the Keepers were very alert, with all eyes on Suguroi, who has a tendency to disappear on the way back to the stockade.
Musiara, Galla, Sattao, Jotto, and Larro joined the orphans in the morning. Amazingly enough, Kuishi — who belongs to this group — was missing. We think she has grown more clever and decided to team up with the older ex-orphans.
Kindani settled to scratch on nearby rocks, while Lodo held a brief meeting with Galla. After getting the morning lucerne, Naleku led the way to the browsing field. A lone wild bull showed up and walked directly to the water trough. The orphans met the wild bull at the water trough and exchanged greetings by raising their trunks in the air. Thereafter, Olorien, Esoit, Roho, and Choka participated in a soil dusting exercise. Roho disrupted Olorien’s exercise when he attempted to ride on her.

Mayan, Olorien, Bondeni Kinyei, Esoit, and Kindani took a break from browsing to have fun rolling on the ground. Lodo attempted to chase a bird that was making noise close to him. He ran and knocked down the bush where the bird was perching. By then, however, the bird had sensed danger from Lodo and had long flown away.
At mud bath time, Suguroi led the first group while Naleku led the second one. The sky was cloudy but it was warm enough for the orphans to participate in mud bathing. The sun was getting hot, prompting Vaarti and Mayan to take a break from feeding and instead relax under a tree to hide from the scorching sun.
Mukutan led Loldaiga and Olorien on the way to the mud bath. Olorien made a brief stopover to pick a leftover branch — probably dropped by a wild elephant — then proceeded with her journey. The orphans had their milk then headed for a mud bathing exercise and thereafter settled for a soil dusting exercise.

The orphans joined Kitirua outside the stockade and shared lucerne before leaving for browsing. Kitirua escorted the orphans to the browsing field and settled at the Kone area. Choka, Mukutan, and Loldaiga spent much of their time interacting with Kitirua. Kitirua was gentle in handling the three boys. Later, Kitirua bid goodbye to the boys before parting ways and leaving for an undisclosed location.

After having their milk, the orphans skipped wallowing and opted for a soil dusting exercise instead.
In the afternoon, they browsed between the west of Ithumba Hill and the Imenti area, where they were joined by Sunyei, Subiri, Siku, and Saba. After a brief interaction, Sunyei left with her family. Lodo settled to browse with Suguroi, Bondeni, and Esoit.
Later, the orphans enjoyed an evening roadside mud bath before starting their journey back to the stockade. Loldaiga had a brief strength testing exercise with Mukutan, which was cut short by Roho, who pushed the two boys apart.

Tumaren and Tembo were the guest elephants this morning. The mother and her baby arrived at the stockade compound early — before dawn — and waited patiently for the orphans to come out. At six o’clock, the orphans had their milk and then left the stockade to begin their day.
Loldaiga, Mukutan, and Choka wanted to have fun with Tembo, but his mother Tumaren blocked them. Choka tried to force his way in, but Tumaren pushed him away. Tumaren and her baby shared a single pile of lucerne before walking down to the water trough for a drink, then left quietly.
Naleku led the way to the browsing field, and the orphans settled at Kanziku. Vaarti and Bondeni took a break from browsing to engage in a strength-testing exercise.
While in the browsing field, the orphans were joined by Melia, Milo, Siangiki, and a wild elephant with her calf. At eleven o'clock, the orphans headed for their noon bottle feeds. They skipped the wallowing exercise, with the exception of Lodo, who jumped into the water to cool off. Afterwards, the orphans settled for a soil dusting session before returning to the browsing field.
Two wild bulls showed up at the water trough. Mukutan and Choka approached them to investigate whether they were familiar. The wild bulls were not hostile, and the two boys spent some time in their company before returning to rejoin their group.
The orphans then settled to browse west of Ithumba Hill and browsed calmly throughout the rest of the day without any major observations.
The sky was clear in the morning. The orphans settled for lucerne soon after leaving the stockade. Shortly afterward, Tumaren, Tembo, Kalama, Chaimu, a wild elephant, and her baby showed up and joined the orphans. The orphans decided to give space to these seniors by walking away and heading to the browsing field.
The orphans settled to browse in the Kone area. Mukutan, Choka, and Loldaiga split from the main herd and browsed a distance away. The Keepers kept a keen eye on the three boys since they didn’t understand their intentions or mission. Esoit met up with Vaarti and later engaged him in a pushing game.
At eleven o’clock in the morning, Olorien led the first group to the mud bath, while Kindani led the second one. The orphans had their milk and then headed to drink water. Lodo and Roho got into the wallowing water and cooled off before engaging in a strength-testing exercise. Vaarti, Bondeni, Suguroi, Naleku, Mayan, and Kinyei participated in a soil dusting exercise before returning to the browsing field.
In the evening, the orphans attended the roadside mud bath, where they were briefly joined by Sities, Sunni, Turkwel, Suguta, Maramoja, Kainuk, Malkia, Sana Sana, Naboishu, Mutara, and Mambo. Suguroi and Naleku wanted to leave with Mutara’s group just to spend time with Sunni, but the Keepers blocked them from following since it was getting late and time to return to the stockade.
Bondeni, Vaarti, and Choka settled for a scratching exercise soon after leaving the stockade. Loldaiga engaged Esoit in a strength-testing exercise, while the rest of the team settled for lucerne. After lucerne feeding time, Suguroi led the way to the browsing field.
At the browsing field, the orphans were joined by Sattao, Larro, Enkikwe, and Galla. Lodo, Roho, Kindani, Olorien, Kinyei, and Mayan came across a bush mud bath and decided to have some fun rolling in the mud. After having enough fun, the orphans browsed calmly and slowly as they headed toward the mud bath.
The orphans had their milk, then water, before settling into a soil dusting exercise. In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse west of Ithumba Hill. It was a quiet afternoon, and they browsed calmly throughout without any major observation. In the evening, Vaarti led the way back to the stockade.
Larro, Sattao, Galla, and Enkikwe were resting outside the stockades when the orphans were let out. Esoit walked over to Larro to find out if she had heard from Kuishi. Larro informed Esoit that Kuishi was safe and had joined a different group, and that they meet regularly. Esoit sent greetings through Larro before parting ways.
The orphans settled for lucerne and shared it with the ex-orphans, before shortly parting ways. Suguroi led the way to the browsing field, where she teamed up with Kinyei for browsing. Kindani came across some loose soil and decided to have fun rolling in it. Bondeni engaged Loldaiga in a strength-testing exercise, while Lodo played with Roho.
The orphans were briefly joined by Tembo and Tumaren. Naleku, Suguroi, and Olorien had a short meeting with Tembo, before he slipped away by running back to his mother. At eleven o'clock in the morning, Mukutan led the first group to the mud bath, while Vaarti led the second one.
Enkikwe emerged from the nearby bushes and came straight over with his mouth open, requesting a bottle of milk. The Keepers informed him that they didn't have an extra bottle and that he should help himself to water instead. Enkikwe left to catch up with Galla, who had passed a short distance from the milk feeding point.
After the orphans had water, Lodo led the way to the water trough, where they had an opportunity to meet a large wild bull who was helping himself to a drink. The bull was shy, and the moment he spotted the Keepers, he walked away.
In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse south of the mud bath. They concentrated fully on browsing and later visited the roadside mud bath for a cooling-off exercise. In the evening, Vaarti led the way back to the stockades.
Makireti, who appears to have formed her own group consisting of young girls, showed up in the morning. Her baby, Makimaki, was under tight security provided by the nannies. The members in her group included Neshashi, the main nanny, along with Malima, Siangiki, Roi, Oltaiyoni, Kuishi, and Maramoja.
Suguroi and Naleku joined the queue of babysitting Makimaki but were pushed away by the older nannies.
Loldaiga started his morning by scratching on a nearby rock and was later joined by Vaarti. After having enough lucerne, Kindani led the way to the browsing field. The orphans settled to browse in the Kone area. Vaarti, Naleku, Bondeni, and Kindani visited the Kone dam for water and thereafter returned to browsing.
The orphans browsed calmly as they slowly made their way towards the midday bottle feed. At eleven o’clock, Olorien led the first group to the mud bath. The orphans were briefly joined by ex-orphans Lualeni, Lulu, Lexi, Luki, Mutara, Mambo, Suguta, Kainuk, Sities, Turkwel, Sunni, Malkia, Sana Sana, and Naboishu.
Lodo engaged Mambo in a light pushing game, while Vaarti and Mayan engaged Lulu in a short conversation. In the afternoon, the orphans met with Orwa and Kitirua, who browsed with them for quite some time before parting ways.
In the evening, Mayan led the way back to the stockade.
It was such a beautiful morning, with the babies waking up in joy to find that their milk was ready for them. They were very happy, and when milk time came, they became even more excited and started competing for space. After having their share of milk, they immediately walked out to feed on lucerne.
In the field, they enjoyed the lucerne, with Suguroi taking half a bale and placing it on a rock to feed from. The rest were fully enjoying feeding separately. The babies later walked out into the bush for browsing.
Out in the bush, they were lucky not to meet any of the ex-orphans who might disturb them. They had a peaceful morning browsing, with Esoit play-fighting with Vaarti and later with Loldaiga. They eventually walked towards the mud bath for their milk bottles once again.
At the mud bath, they enjoyed their milk peacefully and then walked to the waterhole to cool off. Afterwards, they drank water, and a few enjoyed a dust bath before heading back into the bush for the evening browse.
They were very happy to browse peacefully, though they kept an eye on the Keepers, as they had become a bit scared after hearing the sound of a leopard nearby. They all came towards the Keepers and stayed close by. Mayan later led them back home in the evening for their milk again.
Very few ex-orphans visited today — Enkikwe, Rapa, Lualeni, Lulu, and Lexi were around today and later walked away.
It was such an exciting morning as the babies woke up to find their milk and lucerne ready for them. They felt so content to have their food waiting, and after feeding on milk, they walked out to enjoy the lucerne. Being the only ones around, they really enjoyed themselves. They later walked away into the bush for the morning browsing session.
Out in the bush, they looked active and content. They browsed throughout the morning, with Loldaiga and Mukutan starting to play in the dust. Suguroi, Naleku, and Kinyei also played separately before heading to the mud bath for their milk bottles and wallowing.
At the mud bath, they enjoyed their milk, then walked to drink water before heading to the dam for wallowing. Afterwards, they returned to the bush to continue browsing.
Despite the hot sun, all the orphans remained busy browsing. In the evening, they started heading back home, led by Vaarti. It was a peaceful day with not many ex-orphans or wild elephants around the area.
