The dry period continued until the end of February. Several incidences of Human Wildlife Conflict led to the loss of seven lions and 25 vultures following a suspected case of poisoning in Kitenden. An additional lion was killed in Imbirikani after it was speared by a livestock herder. Craig, the famous elephant in Amboseli, died during the month due to a natural cause (twisted intestine). The Unit were also involved in the assessment of Kanzi Conservancy (Kuku Group Ranch) for the proposed introduction of white rhinos. The ecological status, security, and management of Kanzi Conservancy was evaluated and the management advised in respect to the findings.
