Mount Kenya Mobile Veterinary Unit Report for November 2021

During November 2021, the SWT/KWS Mount Kenya Veterinary Unit attended to all reported wildlife cases that required veterinary intervention in the Laikipia Ecosystem and Mt. Kenya Region.

The wildlife cases attended to included treatment of 4 endangered bongos, and the relocation of 1 bongo, at Mt. Kenya Wildlife Conservancy. There were multiple elephant cases attended to in the month: The treatment of an elephant for a snare wound and 3 elephants for bullet wounds, as well as a post-mortem of another elephant. There were 2 orphan infant elephant rescues in November, with both individuals being taken to the SWT 's Neonate Nursery. 5 elephants were also relocated due to human-wildlife conflict. A giraffe was treated on El Karama Ranch, for a swelling to its left forelimb, a leopard was immobilised for ear tagging, and 2 lions were collared, before being translocated to Meru National Park.
