Important Statement on AI-Generated Content

Published on the 25th of February, 2026

We want to address the elephant in the room: AI-generated animal content is on the rise. As an organisation that prides itself on authentic storytelling, we are watching this trend with concern. Misinformation has the potential to become very detrimental to conservation.

That’s why we’re asking for your help in keeping genuine conservation content front and centre. Follow organisations’ official channels for updates you can trust. (For our organisation, official content is posted only via @sheldricktrust — look for the blue check badge next to our name.) Just because something appears in your feed doesn’t mean it’s authentic — refrain from liking, commenting, or sharing posts from unverified sources. Finally, if you see misleading content, flag it or report it.

As our friends at Elephant Voices put it, “Conservation depends on trust. When fake images go viral, they distort public understanding and divert attention from the urgent, complex problems wildlife is actually facing.”

We are hopeful that, despite the rise of AI, real wildlife and conservation will remain in the spotlight. There is no reason to fabricate it; the bona fide stories from the field are incredible enough. Thank you to our committed supporters for being vigilant and helping us protect the integrity of this work.

And now, back to the authentic conservation stories everyone is here for!
