Bedtime and Playtime with Bumpy

A little update about our darling orphaned hippo, now two months into his life with us.

Bumpy by day:

The only thing Bumpy loves more than swimming is swimming for an admiring audience. With his Keepers at the water’s edge, he pulls off his most impressive twirls, swirls, and pirouettes — if only he knew how many others appreciate his aqua acrobatics, too!

Bumpy by night:

While his days are action-packed, Bumpy always looks forward to bedtime — so much so that he's usually fast asleep before Festus has even finished tucking him in! His favourite Keeper will sleep by his side, providing company and care throughout the night, along with milk feeds every three hours.

Dive into Bumpy's journey

Bumpy’s story could have ended very differently. He was rescued in May, after his mother died — likely in a territorial fight defending her baby’s life. He spent at least a day huddled by her body before the Kenya Wildlife Service found him and brought him into our care. Now, as you can see, he is absolutely thriving!
