Join us live from the Nursery — on the birthday eve of our late founder, Dame Daphne Sheldrick, in the place where she raised the first orphaned infant elephant, and where we proudly carry on her pioneering work.
Before Daphne, no one had ever successfully raised an orphaned African elephant. Through trial and error, successes and heartache, she developed the milk formula and husbandry needed to see these babies through their vulnerable infancy — laying the foundations that have successfully raised more than 300 orphaned elephants and counting.
Tonight, join Head Keeper Edwin and our Nursery herd as they come home for for a warm bottle of milk and a cosy place to bed down. It’s a ritual that has taken place for decades — begun by Dame Daphne, and proudly continued in her memory.
