World Elephant Day: Become Part of an Extraordinary Story

Published on the 12th of August, 2026

This World Elephant Day, we invite you to become part of an extraordinary story.

Above, watch the story of an orphan unfold — a story that began with loss, was defined by love, and eventually led them back to the wild.

The lifespan of an elephant mirrors our own. Through our orphans, we walk alongside these extraordinary creatures — rescuing orphans left behind, nurturing them to adulthood, and watching as their own families root in the wild.

Elephant conservation is not the work of a moment, but a monumental, multi-generational commitment. As we nurture the orphans of today, we are working on the bigger picture — protecting landscapes, saving wild lives, and tackling root threats like poaching, habitat loss, and human-wildlife conflict — to secure a future for all elephants.

To date, we have rescued over 300 orphaned elephants and welcomed more than 90 wild grandbabies of our Orphans' Project. Our ever-growing elephant family tree is a testament to the success of this 'big picture' conservation work. Every life saved, every wild baby born, is the result of thousands of kilometres patrolled by rangers, countless hours flown by pilots, long days and sleepless nights worked by teams in the field.

It is also a testament to you. For 49 years and counting, supporters have stood by our side and made these stories possible. Every time you adopt an orphan, donate to our work, or contribute in ways big and small, you further our work in the field and help us forge a future for elephants.
