Area Covered

During the course of the month we carried out patrols at: the Taita Hills Sanctuary, Oza Ranch and Maktau.

TOTAL SNARES COLLECTED 22

Findings During the month of April we revisted the last months snaring hotspots like the Taita Hills Sanctuary where we found snares that targeted medium sized game.

We were also shocked to find the carcass of a lesser kudu that had been trapped by a snare.
Furthermore we came across snares for guinea fowls and other birds.
We found that charcoal burning is unfortunately still taking place in the Sanctuary.

At Oza ranch we found that the level of snaring has decreased due to the number of domestic animals that are grazing in the area and whose herdsmen lift any snares that they come across.

We patrolled the mining areas at Maktau and were distressed to find that extensive mining is still taking place.
