May 2nd

Musiara, Kuishi, Sattao, and Larro joined the orphans in the morning soon after the orphans were let out. Bondeni and Kindani settled for scratching exercises on the nearby rocks as they waited for the distribution of lucerne. Musiara engaged Sattao in a pushing game that lasted for quite some time before ending in a draw. After the orphans had their lucerne, Olorien led the way to the browsing field.

The orphans headed straight to the Kone Dam area. Kinyei and Kindani took a break from browsing to participate in a soil dusting exercise. Mayan teamed up with Vaarti and Choka in browsing, while Lodo teamed up with Loldaiga and Mukutan. The rest of the morning was quiet as the orphans browsed calmly, slowly making their way towards the mud bath.

Kuishi, Larro, Musiara, and Sattao parted ways with the orphans and left for an undisclosed location. At mud bath time, the orphans had their milk and then headed straight for wallowing. After having enough of wallowing, the orphans settled for a soil dusting exercise before returning to the browsing field.

The orphans settled to browse west of Ithumba Hill. Lodo teamed up with Bondeni and Roho in browsing, while Olorien, Kindani, Suguroi, and Naleku took a break from feeding to enjoy rolling on the ground. At around four o’clock in the evening, Makireti, Kilabasi, Kofi, Tusuja, Neshashi, and Makireti’s new baby arrived at the stockade compound. This was to make an announcement about Makireti becoming a new mother.

Neshashi enjoyed the sole responsibility of playing nanny to Makireti’s new baby. This will be a year to remember, with many babies born. Now we wait for the next birth, bearing in mind that Kilabasi, Naserian, Wendi, Nasalot, Suguta, and Mutara are all pregnant.

Loldaiga and Choka were the first to leave the stockades this morning. The two boys started their day with a scratching session along the stockade wall. The rest of the orphans focused on their lucerne, and about an hour later, Naleku led the way out to the browsing field.

Once at the browsing area, the orphans were joined by Musiara, Sattao, Kuishi, and Larro. Loldaiga teamed up with Roho for browsing, while Kuishi joined Esoit, Choka, Mukutan, and Olorien. Along the way, Suguroi came across a small bush mud bath and decided to cool off early. She was soon joined by Naleku, Musiara, Lodo, and Kindani.

At eleven o’clock, Vaarti led the first group to the midday bottle feeds. After their milk, the orphans were briefly joined by Kinna, Kama, Kaia, Kito, Naisula, Nyx, Esampu, Mteto, Tusuja, and Oltiayoni. Esoit, Lodo, Kuishi, Musiara, Larro, and Tusuja took the opportunity to jump into the waterhole for a refreshing wallow.

In the afternoon, Bondeni and Esoit had a disagreement during a private meeting, which quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. Kuishi, who was nearby, stepped in promptly and separated the two boys before things got out of hand.

Later in the evening, as the orphans began heading back to the stockades, Mukutan was nowhere to be found. It turned out he had been inadvertently ‘kidnapped’ by Kuishi and her team, who had no intention of returning to the stockades that night. Mukutan, however, realised he did not want to miss his evening milk and decided to part ways with them. The Keepers mounted a quick search and eventually spotted Mukutan making his way back, clearly determined not to miss out on his bottle.

The orphans settled for lucerne soon after leaving the stockades. Shortly afterwards, Yatta and her family showed up and joined them for the lucerne feeding. Wema, who is Wendi's second baby, appeared to have abandoned her mother in order to help Yatta look after Yana—since neither Yogi nor Yoyo seem interested in checking on their younger sister.

Before long, Yatta and her family departed to an undisclosed location. Naleku then led the orphans out to the browsing field. They settled to browse in the Kone Dam area, where they were joined by Musiara, Kuishi, Sattao, and Larro. Esoit walked over to greet Larro and Kuishi as part of their morning interactions.

The orphans browsed calmly as they made their way toward the mud bath. At eleven o'clock, Mayan led the way to the noon bottle feeds. After finishing their milk, the orphans took some water and then returned to the browsing field.

The afternoon passed quietly, with the orphans browsing calmly without any major observations. In the evening, Loldaiga led the way back to the stockades.

Soon after settling down for lucerne, the orphans were joined by Lenana, Lapa, and Laki. Vaarti tried to spend some time with Laki but was pushed away by Lapa. Vaarti consoled himself by scratching on a nearby rock. Loldaiga, Choka, and Mukutan stretched their trunks out, hoping to get Laki’s attention and invite her for a greeting, but Laki was hesitant — he didn’t quite trust the three boys.

Roho had a disagreement with Lapa, which turned into a pushing game that ended in a draw. Once the orphans had finished feeding on lucerne, Suguroi led the way to the browsing field. They settled at their favourite spot in the Kone area and were later joined by Musiara, Kuishi, Sattao, and Larro. Esoit teamed up with Larro, while Bondeni chose to browse with Musiara and Kindani.

The orphans browsed calmly as they slowly made their way toward the mud bath. At eleven o'clock, Mayan led the first group for the midday milk feed. After enjoying their bottles, the orphans participated in a mud bath before heading back to the browsing fields.

In the afternoon, they settled in the Imenti area. Loldaiga spent some time testing his strength by attempting to push over a tree. However, the tree proved too strong, and he gave up and returned to browsing. Meanwhile, Roho engaged Kindani in a light-hearted pushing game that continued for quite some time.

In the evening, Loldaiga once again took the lead, guiding the orphans back to the stockade.

It was a quiet morning. The orphans settled for lucerne soon after leaving the stockade. They were joined briefly by Musiara, Sattao, Larro, and Kuishi, who didn’t stay for long. The two boys and two girls headed west of the stockade, while the orphans made their way south and settled to browse in the Kone Dam area.

Lodo, Roho, Bondeni, and Mukutan visited the dam for a drink before rejoining their friends in the browsing field. Loldaiga and Mayan engaged in a brief strength-testing exercise, which came to an end when Naleku passed close by and pushed the two boys away.

The orphans browsed calmly as they made their way toward the mud bath. At eleven o’clock, Vaarti led the first group, followed by Suguroi with the second. After having their milk, the orphans enjoyed a short wallow before heading back to the browsing fields.

Esoit chose to browse with Mayan, while Kindani teamed up with Bondeni. Later, the orphans took a break from feeding to relax under the shade of a tree, resuming browsing once the temperatures dropped to a more comfortable level.

In the evening, Loldaiga led the way back to the stockade.

May 10th

Loldaiga and Mukutan settled for a scratching exercise immediately after leaving the stockade. Kuishi, Sattao, Larro, and Musiara, who had arrived at the stockade compound early before the orphans were let out, stood outside patiently waiting to interact with them. Kindani, Lodo, Larro, and Musiara searched for suitable rocks to scratch their bellies. Kinyei exchanged morning greetings with Bondeni as Mukutan engaged Esoit in a light pushing game. Shortly later, Mukutan surrendered, and Roho took over by engaging Sattao in a strength-testing exercise.

Kuishi and her team escorted the orphans to the browsing field. Kuishi, Suguroi, Musiara, and Naleku visited the Kone Dam for water before resuming browsing.

At eleven o’clock in the morning, Mayan led the way to the midday bottle feeds. After receiving their milk, the orphans were joined by a hostile bull in musth, who even charged at the Keepers. The bull was in the company of Kitirua. Due to the aggression of the wild bull, the mud bath session was cut short. Naleku led the orphans away and back to the browsing field.

On the way, the orphans met with Nusu and Mundusi and interacted briefly before parting ways. The orphans settled to browse west of Ithumba Hill and remained calm throughout the rest of the day.

In the evening, Loldaiga led the way back to the stockade.

After getting their morning milk, Loldaiga led the way out. The orphans briefly settled for lucerne before Naleku led the way to the browsing field. Choka shared his pile of lucerne with Mukutan, while Esoit and Mayan settled to scratch on nearby rocks.

At the browsing field, Kindani, Mayan, Lodo, Suguroi, Olorien, Kinyei, and Esoit took a break from feeding to enjoy a game of rolling on the ground. After having enough fun, the orphans resumed browsing as they slowly made their way toward the mud bath.

It was a peaceful moment as the orphans took their milk at eleven o’clock in the morning and then settled for wallowing. No single wild elephant or ex-orphan showed up. Even Kuishi, Larro, Sattao, and Musiara—who occasionally join the orphans—were nowhere to be seen.

In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse west of Ithumba Hill. Lodo engaged Roho in a pushing game that lasted for quite some time. Kindani engaged Mayan in a light pushing game, which was interrupted by Naleku.

In the evening, the orphans attended a roadside mud bath before returning to the stockade for yet another night.

Kuishi, Sattao, Larro, and Musiara joined the orphans in the morning for lucerne feeding. Esoit was delighted to see Kuishi and Larro and exchanged morning greetings with them. Kindani, Lodo, and Kinyei settled to scratch on nearby rocks.

An hour later, Naleku led the way to the browsing field. Esoit, Kuishi, and Larro stopped at the stockade water trough for a drink before following their colleagues. The orphans settled to browse in the Kone area. Roho and Lodo visited the Kone dam for water, then resumed browsing.

Kuishi, Sattao, Larro, and Musiara later parted ways with the orphans and headed east to an undisclosed location. The orphans continued to browse calmly as they slowly made their way toward the mud bath.

At eleven o'clock, Vaarti led the way to the mud bath. After having their milk, the orphans walked to the wallowing water and tested the temperature with their feet. The water seemed too cold, so they simply walked through it without wallowing. They then settled for a soil dusting exercise before returning to the browsing field.

In the afternoon, Mayan and Loldaiga assisted each other in peeling the bark from the same tree. Naleku came over and pushed the two boys away, taking over the task. She enjoyed peeling the bark for a while before quitting once she’d had enough. Kinyei browsed alongside Lodo, while Olorien teamed up with Suguroi and Roho.

In the evening, the orphans returned safely to the stockade.

Musiara, Galla, Sattao, Jotto, and Larro joined the orphans in the morning. Amazingly enough, Kuishi — who belongs to this group — was missing. We think she has grown more clever and decided to team up with the older ex-orphans.

Kindani settled to scratch on nearby rocks, while Lodo held a brief meeting with Galla. After getting the morning lucerne, Naleku led the way to the browsing field. Musiara, Jotto, Larro, Galla, and Sattao escorted the orphans to the browsing field. An hour later, the four boys and one girl left for an undisclosed location.

Esoit and Olorien took a break from feeding to have fun playing on the ground. Bondeni teamed up with Vaarti in browsing, while Suguroi settled to browse with Naleku and Roho.

At eleven o'clock in the morning, Mayan led the first group to the mud bath, while Kinyei led the second one. After getting their milk, Roho led the team into a mud bath in a nearby water pan. Later, the orphans wallowed in the big dam.

A lone wild bull showed up and walked directly to the water trough. The orphans met the wild bull at the water trough and exchanged greetings by raising their trunks in the air. Thereafter, Olorien, Esoit, Roho, and Choka participated in a soil dusting exercise. Roho disrupted Olorien’s exercise when he attempted to ride on her.

In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse west of Ithumba Hill. Vaarti played with Bondeni while Roho played with Lodo. In the evening, the orphans returned safely to the stockade.

Larro, Sattao, Galla, and Enkikwe were resting outside the stockades when the orphans were let out. Esoit walked over to Larro to find out if she had heard from Kuishi. Larro informed Esoit that Kuishi was safe and had joined a different group, and that they meet regularly. Esoit sent greetings through Larro before parting ways.

The orphans settled for lucerne and shared it with the ex-orphans, before shortly parting ways. Suguroi led the way to the browsing field, where she teamed up with Kinyei for browsing. Kindani came across some loose soil and decided to have fun rolling in it. Bondeni engaged Loldaiga in a strength-testing exercise, while Lodo played with Roho.

The orphans were briefly joined by Tembo and Tumaren. Naleku, Suguroi, and Olorien had a short meeting with Tembo, before he slipped away by running back to his mother. At eleven o'clock in the morning, Mukutan led the first group to the mud bath, while Vaarti led the second one.

Enkikwe emerged from the nearby bushes and came straight over with his mouth open, requesting a bottle of milk. The Keepers informed him that they didn't have an extra bottle and that he should help himself to water instead. Enkikwe left to catch up with Galla, who had passed a short distance from the milk feeding point.

After the orphans had water, Lodo led the way to the water trough, where they had an opportunity to meet a large wild bull who was helping himself to a drink. The bull was shy, and the moment he spotted the Keepers, he walked away.

In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse south of the mud bath. They concentrated fully on browsing and later visited the roadside mud bath for a cooling-off exercise. In the evening, Vaarti led the way back to the stockades.

Makireti, who appears to have formed her own group consisting of young girls, showed up in the morning. Her baby, Makimaki, was under tight security provided by the nannies. The members in her group included Neshashi, the main nanny, along with Malima, Siangiki, Roi, Oltaiyoni, Kuishi, and Maramoja.

Suguroi and Naleku joined the queue of babysitting Makimaki but were pushed away by the older nannies.

Loldaiga started his morning by scratching on a nearby rock and was later joined by Vaarti. After having enough lucerne, Kindani led the way to the browsing field. The orphans settled to browse in the Kone area. Vaarti, Naleku, Bondeni, and Kindani visited the Kone dam for water and thereafter returned to browsing.

The orphans browsed calmly as they slowly made their way towards the midday bottle feed. At eleven o’clock, Olorien led the first group to the mud bath. The orphans were briefly joined by ex-orphans Lualeni, Lulu, Lexi, Luki, Mutara, Mambo, Suguta, Kainuk, Sities, Turkwel, Sunni, Malkia, Sana Sana, and Naboishu.

Lodo engaged Mambo in a light pushing game, while Vaarti and Mayan engaged Lulu in a short conversation. In the afternoon, the orphans met with Orwa and Kitirua, who browsed with them for quite some time before parting ways.

In the evening, Mayan led the way back to the stockade.
