Anti-poaching activities ramped up in December. The teams covered a remarkable 40,566 kilometres on patrol and made 36 arrests. They also supported an array of field emergencies, including human-wildlife conflict mitigation, veterinary operations, orphan rescues, and firefighting.
In December , SWT/KWS Anti-Poaching Teams lifted 881 snares and made 36 arrests, including the arrest of three bushmeat poachers and nine suspected bushmeat poachers. Other arrests made during the month include three herders, seven firewood collectors, five charcoal burners, four fishermen, one logger, three miraa harvesters, and one arrest made for illegal entry into the park.
During the month, the teams destroyed 15 charcoal kilns, including 10 harbors/hides/camps used by offenders in the parks along with seven livestock bomas.
In December, the teams also discovered two elephant carcasses and handed 60kg of ivory to the KWS for safekeeping. They also supported firefighting operations, helped push elephants out of community areas, and supported several veterinary cases and orphan rescues.
