March was a very busy month for SWT/KWS Anti-Poaching Teams. Rangers patrolled 36,330 kilometres and made 52 arrests, including several significant poaching arrests. They also supported a wide range of field operations, including human-wildlife conflict missions and veterinary treatments.
The Ziwani Team apprehended a poacher found in possession of a giraffe carcass, the Kulalu II Team arrested several bushmeat poachers — including one whose motorbike was loaded with contraband — and the Tiva Team detained a bushmeat poacher operating from a camp.
Teams also responded to human-wildlife conflict missions, pushing elephants out of community areas, alongside veterinary operations including the treatment of a snared giraffe supported by the Yatta Team.
Across Tsavo, the anti-poaching teams have been working closely with the new SWT/KWS Drone Units, which are now patrolling the greater Tsavo Conservation Area day and night. The Burra Team supported the Drone Unit directly with aerial patrols during the month.
