January 2nd

Wendi, Wema, Wimbi, Wiva, Wanjala, Galana, Gawa, Gala, Siku, Zurura, and two wild elephants were at the stockade compound when the orphans were let out. Wema tried to bully Vaarti, but Kuishi intervened, warning Wema to keep away from Vaarti. Kinyei had a brief interaction with Gala before stepping aside, allowing Vaarti and Mayan to take over. Mayan was the first to engage Gala in a light pushing game, and later, Vaarti joined in to play with Gala.

Kuishi challenged Wanjala in a pushing game, while Sattao played with Gawa. Later, Naleku led the orphans to the browsing field. A wild bull followed the group, occasionally charging at the orphans and the keepers. The wild bull eventually left when the keepers climbed onto rocks for safety.

The orphans settled to browse in the Kone area and browsed peacefully until eleven o'clock in the morning, when Olorien led the first group to the mud bath. The sky remained cloudy, and the temperatures were moderate. After taking their milk, only Lodo, Kindani, Roho, Suguroi, Mukkoka, and Kinyei participated fully in wallowing. A wild teenager emerged from the northern side and joined the six orphans in the water.

Lodo engaged Roho in a strength-testing exercise while still in the water, while the rest of the orphans opted for a soil-bathing session. In the afternoon, the orphans browsed west of Ithumba Hill. Bondeni engaged Roho in a pushing game, while Vaarti played with his friend Mayan.

In the evening, the orphans returned safely to the stockade.

January 3rd

It was a quiet morning. No ex-orphans or wild elephants showed up to share lucerne with the orphans. The orphans had all the freedom they needed, as there was no one to compete with or push them around. Mayan and Vaarti settled to scratch on their usual rock, while Roho and Suguroi engaged in a game of sitting and raising their trunks. Esoit and Mukkoka gently pushed Mayan and Vaarti off the rock to enjoy scratching their bellies in turn.

When the orphans had enough lucerne, Naleku led the way to the browsing field. The orphans settled to browse in the Kone area and browsed calmly until mud bath time, when Vaarti led the first group to the mud bath. The temperatures were moderate, and only Roho, Suguroi, Lodo, Kindani, Kuishi, Larro, and Esoit participated in wallowing. Lodo and Roho had a strength-testing game while still in the water, which ended in a draw. Kuishi, Larro, and Esoit were the last to leave the wallow.

The rest of the group only washed their feet before heading for a soil-dusting session. In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse west of Ithumba Hill. Kuishi developed an itchy ear and found a suitable tree to scratch against.

In the evening, the orphans returned safely to the stockade.

Tumaren, Tembo, Naseku, Esambu, Chaimu, and Ishanga joined the orphans for lucerne feeding in the morning. Vaarti and Mayan settled at their usual rock for a scratching exercise before interacting with Tembo. Kuishi exchanged morning greetings with Naseku and then led the orphans to the browsing field.

At the browsing field, Vaarti browsed alongside Mayan, while Lodo teamed up with Kinyei. The orphans browsed calmly as they slowly made their way to the mud bath. At eleven o'clock, Olorien led Naleku and Suguroi in the first group, while Mayan led Vaarti and Lodo in the second group. The orphans had their milk and walked toward the mud bath.

The weather was chilly, and the orphans boycotted the wallowing exercise, except for Roho, Lodo, Kindani, and Suguroi, who participated fully. Larro chose a soil-dusting exercise while her colleagues headed straight back to the browsing field.

In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse in the Kanziku area. Kuishi, as usual, browsed with her younger brother Esoit, while the rest of the group scattered across the area, enjoying the lush vegetation.

In the evening, Mayan led the way back to the stockade.

January 5th

It was a quiet morning. Only the orphans were present at the lucerne feeding time. The orphans didn't stay for long as Vaarti, Kuishi, and Esoit walked to the water trough and started rumbling, calling their colleagues to leave for browsing before the green vegetation starts to lose its lushness. Indeed, many trees have started changing colour from green to brown, an indication that the rain is no more and the dry period is beckoning.

Roho had a brief strength-testing exercise with Esoit while Olorien and Bondeni lagged behind, trying to pick the best out of the lucerne. The two orphans left later to catch up with their colleagues. Lodo had a brief meeting with Mayan as Mukkoka teamed up with Sattao. Tumaren, Tembo, Naseku, Chaimu, Maramoja, and Esampu passed a distance away from where the orphans were feeding and didn't bother to come close. Kuishi, Larro, Kindani, and Naleku just raised their trunks up as if waving while sending greetings to the ex-orphans.

The orphans settled to browse north of Kalovoto, and at eleven o'clock in the morning, Vaarti led the way for the noon bottle feeds. After getting their milk, the orphans only washed their feet because the weather was chilly and the water was cold. The orphans had a brief soil-dusting exercise before returning to the browsing field.

In the afternoon, Suguroi engaged Lodo in a pushing game that ended in a draw. Naleku played with Olorien, while Esoit played with Roho. The remaining part of the day was quiet as the orphans concentrated more on browsing without any major observation. In the evening, the orphans returned safely to the stockade for yet another night.

January 6th

The orphans settled briefly for lucerne soon after leaving the stockade. Naleku led the group to the browsing field, but the Keepers brought them back since the light was not good enough for them to start walking in the bush. The orphans spent more time at the stockade compound until the light was good enough to start wandering off to the bush.

Mayan kept himself busy by playing with Bondeni, while Sattao played with Roho. Mukkoka settled to scratch his belly on a nearby rock as Olorien had a brief talk with Kindani. The orphans settled to browse at the Kone area, where Sattao competed with Kuishi over who between them could reach the highest leaves on a tree. Lodo settled to browse with Olorien and later took a break to engage Roho in a strength-testing exercise.

Mayan came across a nice rock that he used to scratch against as Vaarti started the journey of heading for his noon bottle feeds. The temperatures were moderate. The orphans had their milk and thereafter skipped the wallowing exercise, settling for a soil-dusting exercise.

In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse east of Ithumba Hill and came across mud that they used to have fun in. Bondeni settled to browse with Mayan and later took a break to relax under a tree until the temperatures dropped to a favourable level. In the evening, Kinyei led the way back to the stockade.

Kibo was at the stockade compound early in the morning. The orphans were let out soon after taking their morning milk and joined Kibo outside. Shortly after, Chyulu arrived with her two babies, Cheka and Charli. The naughty Kibo started harassing Chyulu and even drove her and the kids away from the lucerne feeding area.

Enkikwe and his friend Sapalan arrived and joined the orphans in feeding on lucerne. Kuishi had a brief pushing game with Sapalan while Vaarti and Mayan settled at their usual rock for scratching. An hour later, Sapalan and Enkikwe escorted the orphans to the browsing field.

The orphans settled to browse at Kone area. At the browsing field, the orphans were joined by Zurura, Kitirua, Naserian, Njema, Oltaiyoni, Kandecha, Kalama, Melia, and Milo. Half an hour later, the ex-orphans left for an undisclosed location.

At eleven o'clock in the morning, Kinyei led the way to the mud bath. The orphans had their milk and then headed for wallowing. Lodo, Kinyei, Suguroi, Larro, Kindani, Mukkoka, Naleku, and Roho participated in wallowing, while their colleagues opted for a soil dusting exercise. Nasalot, Nusu, Noah, and Mundusi emerged from the northern side of the mud bath. Mundusi, Noah, and Nusu joined the orphans in wallowing while Nasalot waited outside for the young boys to enjoy themselves.

When the orphans had enough of wallowing, Suguroi led the way out, leaving Nasalot's sons and Mundusi still wallowing.

In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse west of Ithumba Hill. The orphans browsed calmly throughout the remaining part of the day, and in the evening, Vaarti led the way back to the stockade.

The orphans settled briefly for lucerne soon after leaving the stockade. Naleku led the way to the browsing field. Olorien settled to browse with Sattao, while Kindani engaged Esoit in a light pushing game.

At around eight o'clock in the morning, the orphans were joined by Enkikwe and Sapalan, who later took Sattao, Mukkoka, and Kuishi away with them. The three orphans spent some time with the two ex-orphans before rejoining their colleagues later in the afternoon.

At eleven o'clock in the morning, Kinyei led the first group to the mud bath. The orphans had their milk and then headed for wallowing, where they were joined by Zurura. When the orphans had enough of wallowing, Suguroi led the way out of the water. Roho and Lodo stayed back in the water, having a pushing game, while Zurura continued to enjoy his cooling-off exercise.

Finally, Roho and Lodo finished wallowing and playing, and bid goodbye to Zurura. The orphans then had a soil dusting exercise before returning to the browsing field. They settled to browse in the Kanziku area and, in the evening, returned safely to the stockade.

The orphans settled for lucerne soon after leaving the stockades. Mayan and Vaarti settled at their usual rock for scratching and were later joined by Naleku. Shortly afterwards, Kuishi led the way to the browsing field. Kuishi teamed up with Olorien in browsing, while Kinyei came across a nice tree that she used to scratch her ear. Sattao browsed with Kindani, while Vaarti settled to browse with Esoit and Mukkoka.

The orphans browsed at the Kone area. Later, Vaarti, Bondeni, and Mayan visited the Kone dam for water before resuming their browsing. The orphans browsed calmly as they slowly headed to the mud bath. The sun was hot, and the orphans participated fully in the wallowing exercise after having their milk.

In the afternoon, Esoit, Kinyei, Bondeni, and Lodo took a break from browsing to participate in a soil bath, rolling on the ground. After they had enough, the orphans resumed browsing. They browsed towards the north of Kalovoto before changing direction and heading towards the stockades. In the evening, the orphans returned safely to the stockades.

Mukutan, Choka, and Loldaiga had their milk at six o'clock in the morning. After the gates opened, the three new boys were unsure which way to go. Naleku, Larro, Roho, and Kindani entered their stockade to enjoy the leftover branches before leading the newcomers to the lucerne feeding area. Naleku briefly interacted with Choka before settling to feed on lucerne. Vaarti kindly shared his lucerne with Mukutan and Loldaiga, while Suguroi briefly joined Choka but left when Choka protested.

A short while later, Mukutan, Choka, and Loldaiga visited the stockade water trough for a drink before being guided to the browsing fields. The orphans settled to browse at Kone, near Kone Dam, to allow the new boys to cool off if the temperatures became too high. Esoit engaged Kindani in a light pushing game before moving on to play with Roho. Kuishi, Sattao, and Mukkoka, who had spent the night out, rejoined the orphans at Kone Dam.

The group browsed calmly as they made their way to the mud bath. At eleven o'clock in the morning, Kinyei led the way. After their milk feed, the orphans enjoyed a refreshing mud bath. They were soon joined by Olare, Ola, Nabulu, Ndiwa, and Olsekki. Mukutan, Choka, and Loldaiga approached Ola, keen to play with her. Shortly after, Olare led her group away, and the new boys attempted to follow. However, the Keepers intervened, guiding Mukutan, Choka, and Loldaiga back to the main herd.

In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse west of Ithumba Hill in a swampy area, where Mukutan, Choka, and Loldaiga relished cooling themselves in the water to beat the heat. By evening, all the orphans returned safely to the stockades.

Choka, Mukutan, and Loldaiga had their milk in the morning. The three boys, who are proving to be quick learners, didn't need to be shown the way out. Loldaiga, who is more confident, led the way out. The orphans settled for lucerne and shortly later were joined by Olare, Ola, Olsekki, Ndiwa, Nabulu, Tusuja, and a wild bull. Ola settled to scratch on a nearby rock. Choka walked to Ola and engaged her in a light pushing game. Ola didn't feel comfortable and so walked to her mother. Choka followed Ola, but Ola whipped Choka with her trunk. This was to warn Choka against bullying her baby. Choka walked away and called his two friends, Mukutan and Loldaiga, to go and drink water.

Sunyei arrived with her baby, Saba. Following them were two bulls who appeared to be interested in Sunyei. Loldaiga tried to block Saba, who had come to join them in drinking water. Saba couldn't understand where this boy had come from since she had not experienced such a thing before from the orphans. Saba decided not to engage in any form of trouble with Loldaiga and walked away to join her mother.

Later, Kuishi led the way to the browsing field. The orphans settled to browse at Kone area. The orphans browsed calmly until mud bath time, when Kinyei led the first group to the mud bath. The weather was chilly, and the orphans had their milk, then waded through the water without wallowing. After washing their feet, the orphans settled for a soil-dusting exercise and thereafter returned to the browsing field. Esoit and Mayan helped one another in peeling the bark of a tree, and after getting enough, the two boys left in search of another tree. The orphans browsed calmly until five o'clock in the evening, when Vaarti led the first group while Loldaiga led the second group.

The orphans settled for lucerne soon after leaving the stockade. They were joined by Kuishi, Mukkoka, and Sattao, who these days spend their nights out. Mukutan, Choka, and Loldaiga shared lucerne together, while Mayan shared it with Mukkoka. Kindani, Sattao, and Kuishi settled to scratch on nearby rocks. Shortly later, Naleku led the way to the browsing field.

Kuishi teamed up with her friends Larro and Esoit for browsing. Larro picked a stick from the ground and used it to scratch between her front legs. When she was done, she dropped the stick on the ground. The orphans passed by Kone Dam and drank water before resuming browsing.

At eleven o'clock in the morning, Olorien led Vaarti, Mayan, and Kindani in the first group, while Loldaiga led Mukutan and Choka in the second group. The orphans had their milk, enjoyed a mud bath, and then settled for a soil bathing exercise. Kuishi bit the tail of Lodo as the two wallowed in the water. This action prompted Lodo to quit wallowing and move to the soil bathing area. Yetu and Yebo passed by the mud bath, appearing to be in a hurry to an undisclosed location.

In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse at Kanziku area. Bondeni and Roho took a break from feeding to engage in a strength-testing exercise. In the evening, Vaarti led the way back to the stockade.

The orphans had a quiet morning. Kuishi, Sattao, and Mukkoka, who are spending their nights out these days, were comfortably resting at the lucerne feeding area when the orphans were let out. The orphans settled for lucerne, and shortly after, Naleku led the way to the browsing field.

Mukutan, Choka, and Loldaiga, who are adjusting well to their new environment, browsed alongside Kinyei, Kuishi, and Mayan. Sattao chose to browse with Naleku and Suguroi. The orphans settled at Kone area, where the sky was cloudy, and the temperatures were low. They browsed calmly as they slowly made their way toward the mud bath.

At eleven o'clock in the morning, the orphans had their milk but skipped the wallowing exercise due to the chilly weather. Instead, they opted for a soil dusting session.

In the afternoon, the orphans browsed west of Ithumba Hill. They remained focused on browsing for the rest of the day.

Naserian, Njema Sana Sana, and Naboishu visited the stockade briefly for an early lucerne feeding. It seems they were not hungry, as they stayed for only two minutes before leaving for an undisclosed location. Mukutan, Choka, Loldaiga, and Mayan attempted to follow Naserian's group, but the Keepers quickly intervened, preventing the four boys from tagging along.

Naleku led the way to the browsing field. Vaarti and Bondeni began their morning with a strength-testing exercise. The orphans visited Kone Dam, walking through the water as they crossed to the other side.

At eleven o'clock in the morning, Kinyei led the first group to the mud bath, followed by Loldaiga leading the second group. The orphans had their milk and then jumped into the water for a cooling-off session. Roho indulged in his usual game of riding on the others. Kuishi, Larro, and Esoit were the last ones to exit the water. The orphans then enjoyed a soil dusting session before returning to the browsing field.

In the afternoon, the orphans browsed west of the Kalovoto area. The hot sun prompted them to take a break from feeding and relax under the trees. They resumed browsing once the temperatures dropped to a more comfortable level.

In the evening, the orphans returned safely to the stockade.

The orphans settled for lucerne soon after leaving the stockades. Kuishi, Sattao, and Mukkoka joined the orphans after their night out. Mayan engaged Lodo in a pushing game, but it didn't last long. When the game became too challenging for Mayan, he decided to surrender.

After the orphans had enough lucerne, Naleku led the way to the browsing field. The orphans settled to browse at Kone area. Kuishi, Sattao, Kindani, Kinyei, Lodo, and Suguroi visited Kone Dam for water before resuming their browsing. Later, Roho engaged Lodo in another pushing game. However, this game was also cut short when Sattao passed by and pushed the two boys away.

Loldaiga browsed alongside Mayan, while Bondeni played with Vaarti. At eleven o'clock in the morning, Olorien led the first group to the mud bath. The sun was hot, and after having their milk, the orphans quickly jumped into the water for a cooling-off session, followed by a soil dusting exercise.

As the orphans were finishing their mud bath activities, Mutara, Sities, Kainuk, Suguta, Turkwel, Naboishu, Malkia, Sana Sana, Mambo, and five wild elephants arrived and settled for a drink. Shortly afterward, Mutara's group headed west of the mud bath, while the orphans moved toward Kanziku area.

The orphans had a quiet afternoon, browsing calmly for the rest of the day. In the evening, Loldaiga led the way back to the stockades.

The orphans settled for lucerne soon after leaving the stockades. Mukkoka and Mayan settled on a nearby rock for a morning scratching exercise. The orphans didn't stay long at the lucerne feeding venue. Naleku led the way to the browsing field.

The boys were in a playful mood. Choka engaged Roho in a pushing game, while Bondeni played with Mayan. Later, Loldaiga played with Esoit, as Naleku engaged Choka in a brief conversation. Kinyei developed an itchy ear and looked for a suitable tree to get rid of the itching.

The orphans settled to browse at the Kone area and visited the Kone Dam for water before resuming browsing. Mayan teamed up with Vaarti, Esoit, and Choka in browsing, while Esoit, Larro, Kuishi, Sattao, and Mukkoka split from the main herd and browsed a distance away. Lodo browsed with Kinyei, while Olorien settled to browse with Roho. Choka met Suguroi and entwined trunks briefly before Choka quickly disengaged and moved away. It’s not clear what Suguroi had done or said to Choka.

At eleven o’clock in the morning, Kindani led the first group to the mud bath, while Loldaiga led the second one. Kuishi later brought Esoit for his milk. The orphans jumped into the water soon after getting their milk and later settled for a soil-dusting exercise.

Kuishi, Sattao, and Mukkoka didn’t show up in the morning for the lucerne — probably some friends took them out for a night adventure. Larro took over Kuishi’s place by walking to Esoit and assuring him that she would be there for him even if Kuishi didn’t turn up.

It was a cool morning. The orphans settled for lucerne for nearly an hour. After they had enough, Lodo, Mukutan, Choka, Loldaiga, Vaarti, Mayan, Suguroi, and Kinyei walked down to the water trough to drink before leaving for browsing. Naleku decided to go straight to the browsing field without stopping at the water trough. She was followed by Roho, Larro, Esoit, Kindani, and Bondeni.

The orphans settled to browse in the Kone area, where they were joined by Kuishi, Mukkoka, and Sattao. Esoit was happy to see Kuishi, while Roho confronted Sattao, asking where he had spent the night. Sattao pushed Roho aside and warned him never to ask such childish questions again.

At eleven o’clock in the morning, Olorien led the first group to the mud bath, while Loldaiga led the second group. The temperatures were moderate, and after having their milk, the orphans had a quick mud bath before heading back to the browsing field.

The afternoon was quiet as the orphans browsed calmly for the rest of the day.

January 31st

The orphans settled for lucerne soon after leaving the stockade. It was a quiet morning, and no ex-orphans turned up to share the lucerne. Vaarti and Mayan settled for a scratching exercise before starting their day.

Choka threatened to push Esoit if he tried to take his lucerne. However, Esoit wasn’t in the mood to engage in pushing, as he was busy trying to locate Kuishi, who had not shown up in the morning. These days, Kuishi, Mukkoka, and Sattao are slowly making their way into the wild. They no longer spend nights in the stockades but always join the orphans during the day.

Once the orphans had enough lucerne, Naleku led the way to the browsing field. There, the tough Choka decided to test his strength against Lodo by engaging him in a pushing game. The experienced Lodo managed to overpower Choka. Choka left disappointed but told himself he would try again later or the following day.

Kindani played with Esoit, while Roho played with Mayan. The orphans settled to browse at Kone area, where they were joined by Kuishi, Mukkoka, and Sattao.

At eleven o’clock in the morning, Kinyei led the first group to the mud bath, while Loldaiga led the second group. In the afternoon, the orphans settled to browse at Kanziku area and browsed calmly for the rest of the day.
